Lead Product Designer
Getting together with real people in real life makes powerful things happen. Side hustles become careers, ideas become movements, and chance encounters become lifelong connections. Meetup brings people together to create thriving communities. Show up. Change lives.
As a Lead Product Designer, you’ll work closely with product and engineering to ship world-class products led by your strong design sense—valuing simplicity and usability.
What you’ll do in your first six months:
- Be the lead designer for a cross-functional product team leading the end-to-end product design process, shipping features across native mobile and web platforms (research, wireframes, prototypes, flows, detailed design specs, managing the visual QA and implementation process)
- Partner with the team’s product manager to articulate the long, medium, and short term opportunities, facilitating alignment exercises when needed (e.g. design sprints, workshops, planning)
- Build a deep understanding of Meetup, its design systems, inter-dependencies, and product roadmap as well as our product development process
What you’ll do after the first six months:
- Lead, develop, and mentor a 3-5 person product design team
- Evangelize design inside and outside of the organization by finding opportunities to talk about design (company all-hands, board meetings, product reviews, demos, Meetup events, conferences)
- Partner with product and engineering leaders in strategic planning
- Give feedback and guidance around all facets of product design between research, ideation, user experience design, interface design, and visual design
- Unblock designers by working through difficult problems together, outside of regular squad work
- Help designers find more effective ways to socialize their work
- Continue to participate as an individual contributor as necessary
What skills you have:
- 6+ years of design experience on consumer products across web, iOS, and Android
- 2+ years of experience as a people manager on a design team
- Strong understanding of the product design process, from research to visual design
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong facilitation skills—leading groups in both convergent and divergent thinking
- Expert understanding of layout, typography and visual hierarchy, and give strong direction to other designers
- Ability to recruit, hire, onboard, and lead a talented team of product designers
- Experience introducing new processes/workflows that make it easier to maintain design quality across teams
- Experience solving problems in a marketplace or ecosystem with multiple users
