Job Description
As our Senior Design Manager, you'll be responsible for driving the overall design quality of our team's day-to-day work, ensuring alignment between our business objectives, brand voice, and user expectations. You'll lead the development of your design team while also collaborating closely with Product Management, Engineering, Editorial, Creative, and Data & Analytics teams to create scalable design solutions and cohesive alignment to our product experiences.
Reporting directly to the VP of UX & Product Design, you'll have the opportunity to influence product strategy and make decisions that directly impact our product roadmap. You'll also work closely with our data and analytics team to incorporate user insights into your design solutions.
We're looking for a design leader with a proven track record of success in people leadership and experience designing consumer-facing products. Your knowledge and expertise in product design should be evidenced by your ability to guide strategic alignment across full-cycle product development.
Job Responsibilities

  • Your team will include Product Designers, UX Designers, and UX Researchers, and you will provide direction and guidance of their output, facilitating cross-functional partnerships and strategic alignment.
  • You will promote a world-class design practice and ensure delivery of high-quality, user-centric product design that is considerate of structure (information architecture, interactivity), appearance (UI, visual design) and voice (tone, copy)
  • You will, at times, be hands-on with the design work, pitching in on project execution to support your team to do deep-focused work - Figma is where this workflow lives and where you communicate feedback, ideas, and prototypes.
  • You will facilitate a productive design workflow week-by-week, work through all aspects of design from research, ideation, UX architecture, flows, and interactions to wireframes, testing, and polished visual design with your team; ensuring a cohesive and consistent user experience across the platform.
  • You will facilitate and champion productive workshops to propel innovation, ideas, and alignment; resulting in influence of product strategy and contextualization of high-level decisions to provide direction and push the quality of the work coming from your team.
  • You will work closely with our data & analytics team to identify and incorporate user insights into design solutions.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • You have spent 5-7 years designing consumer-facing products; you can reference work you have personally designed and shipped in a diverse portfolio that showcases what you have shipped across agile, cross-functional product teams.
  • You have a history of (and success in) people leadership, including recruiting, training and developing, leadership-by-example, and process optimization.
  • You deploy your team in a way that shares decision-making, encourages ownership and autonomy, and facilitates engagement while being obsessed with creating the right circumstances and conditions for design to deliver value, and for individuals to create meaningful, career-defining work.
  • You're comfortable and effective at giving and receiving feedback that improves design outcomes and fosters learning.
  • Your knowledge is rooted in experience as an expert in the product design discipline and is evidenced by your ability to guide strategic alignment across full-cycle product development.
  • Your workflow happens in Figma and you are comfortable with leveraging and contributing to a design system for scale.
  • Big plus if you're already a reader, you already know our brand, and its role, history, reputation, and voice, in our major markets/restaurant media.
