The Role:

The Senior Product Designer will create innovative and engaging experiences that support the individual needs of every Newsela student and teacher. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Product Design, you will partner closely with team members across Product, Visual Design, Research, Engineering, Data, Content, and Customer Success to design flows, wireframes, interaction models, and prototypes for complex features that effectively solve user problems. You’ll execute designs based on a strong understanding of web and mobile-web platform technologies, always ensuring accessibility considerations are addressed. You’ll use the results of user research, testing, and performance data to identify opportunities and drive design decisions while keeping the larger user journey at the forefront of each decision. You will also be an evangelist of user-centric product design vision and culture on our team and will foster that same mentality within the team.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

Exceptional education products have never been more important or crucially needed. The designs you create will directly impact the learning and teaching experience of tens of millions of users across the U.S. Your work will enable teachers and students nationwide to discover and use the most relevant, engaging content in a timely, efficient manner, which will ultimately help drive higher engagement with Newsela’s learning content and better learning outcomes. You will have the opportunity to help shape the future of K-12 education by designing and delivering delightful, engaging, intuitive product experiences.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have an exceptional design portfolio that reflects shipped and currently-in-market products. You have 4+ years of relevant, consumer-facing product design experience including the following: designing flows and interaction models for complex features that are delightful, simple, elegant, and make it as easy as possible for users to accomplish their goals; effectively communicating your design ideas and underlying thinking through comprehensive documentation (presentations, flows, wireframes); rapidly creating prototypes at various levels of fidelity; planning, conducting, and analyzing customer research and user testing; using research results and performance data to drive your design decisions; and working collaboratively in a dynamic, cross-functional team.

You empathize deeply with the customer and fiercely advocate from their perspective. You identify and clearly articulate customer and business problems, then always propose a range of thoughtful and creative solutions. You know when to apply pixel-perfect attention to detail, and when broad stroke sketches are more appropriate to speed progress. You have a strong understanding of current UX/UI best practices and expertise using industry-standard design tools. You approach designs holistically, ensuring consistency of reusable patterns across the product experience. You execute designs based on a strong understanding of web and mobile-web platform technology. You are thoughtful, curious, and set high standards for yourself. You are autonomous and take responsibility for every last detail, from conception to launch.
