The Role:

The UX Design Manager will lead and develop design strategies to deliver the highest quality experiences for Newsela’s users: students, teachers, and school administrators. You will work with designers and stakeholders across departments to help identify and solve problems to build successful and delightful products. You’ll leverage user research and analytics to illuminate key focus areas for your team, and will develop design principles, frameworks, and processes that not only inspire your team but move metrics. You’ll be a user advocate within Product, and will also influence market-facing teams to prioritize top problems our users are facing within their domains.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

You’ll be joining a team of passionate designers and researchers at the forefront of building products that shape the future of K-12 education, reaching over 25 million users nationwide. Reporting directly to the Head of Design, you’ll be instrumental in enabling designers to develop holistic experiences that are useful and usable for students, teachers, and administrators.

Why We’ll Love You:

First and foremost, you are a strong advocate for the user. You have a deep understanding of user needs and behavior through user research and analytics, and can breakdown complex user or business challenges, turning them into actionable design plans for your team. With 5+ years of product design experience, you’re comfortable working with user research, information architecture, interaction design, and/or prototyping. You’re comfortable managing 2+ designers, and love building great teams as much as building great products. Your an artful communicator and thought partner who inspires others; you’re comfortable presenting to a diverse group, and can tactfully translate product theory to a non-technical audience. You have a bias towards action and instill the same propensity in your teammates. Bonus points if you have a degree in Design or Psychology, and/or a background in news or content.

About Newsela:
