We are looking for an exceptional individual to join and lead the operations group within our People Operations team. Reporting to the VP of People, the Director will provide leadership, mentorship and general execution to our team of experts focused on hiring and growing great people. You will provide People Operations support globally on a variety of HR-related matters including, but not limited to: team mentoring, international operations and HR guidelines & process. 

People Operations plays a critical role in growing, developing, and retaining our outstanding Andelans. You’ll partner with our People Team and business leaders to strategize, solve challenges, and implement solutions as our business continues to scale domestically and internationally. Reporting to the VP, People & Culture based in our Nairobi,Kenya headquarters office, the Director, People Ops will partner on the creation of a people strategy that will support everyone at Andela. You’ll need to solve organizational challenges through people solutions with the aim of delivering on business outcomes. The ideal candidate will contribute at both hands-on and strategic levels to further develop an engaged and innovative culture and organization as we scale. Must be extremely solutions-oriented and comfortable working in a start-up type environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and implement HR systems and processes to support a workforce that will scale to thousands of employees across multiple locations
  • Lead and grow our people operations team
  • Utilize a data driven approach to identify trends and recommend proactive solutions for manager training, benefits and compensation, amongst other initiatives
  • Build on our current process to streamline onboarding processes
  • Build trust with employees across all layers of the organization and be an active listener and effective problem solver of people issues
  • Build out and execute the regional people operations strategy incorporating the global business and people strategy
  • Partner with executives and managers to develop a culture of learning and continuous feedback by creating experiences that engage our team at all levels
  • Utilize a data driven approach to identify trends and recommend proactive solutions for employee performance, retention, and engagement
  • Establish scalable solutions and leverage current programs to empower our leaders to be better managers and prepare high-potential employees for management roles
  • Build trust with employees across all layers of the organization and be an active listener and effective problem solver of people issues while aligning with expected business outcomes
  • Own and launch company-wide People Operations initiatives and programs

Requirements:

  • 8+ years experience in a People Operations / HR role, with recent experience expanding and managing People Operations at a high-growth start-up
    • Global Experience preferred
  • Experience supporting both salary and hourly workforces, creating relevant and meaningful employee programs, reviews, and feedback loops
  • Excellent project management skills with a proven ability to design and implement people strategy that drives business results
  • A natural coach and mentor who relates well with others, listens effectively and can build rapport with a diverse workforce -- all in the spirit of helping employees at all levels move from goal to outcome in a developmental way
  • Strong communicator with the ability to provide both strategic foresight and feedback
  • Expert understanding of employment law, compensation, benefits, organizational development, employee relations, and training
  • Can excel in a fast-growing and amorphous environment -- adapting and reprioritizing as needed
  • Always curious and always learning
  • Positive attitude, responsible approach and a self-starter that’s not afraid to dive in
  • Ability to consistently balance multiple projects, programs and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong capability in change management in multiple scenarios such as organization and leadership changes
  • High degree of business acumen, analytical horsepower and creative problem solving skills
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to adapt to continuous change
  • An effective communicator and natural relationship builder who can collaborate with and influence a variety of work styles and personalities
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to think and plan strategically and tactically
