As the Director of Recruiting, you will lead and support a passionate team of recruiting experts and develop scalable talent strategy and processes to achieve Meetup’s goals for rapid growth. You will also be a recruiting partner, helping to find the best talent in our industry by using an established personal network and community-driven approach to engage the future engineers, ideators, and leaders who will make a positive contribution to our culture and our company’s success. You will build and maintain engaging relationships and raise awareness of our culture by sharing a passion for our mission. The Director of Recruiting will strategically partner with our Senior Director, Employee Experience and our partners at WeWork to define the future of our evolving organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide recruiting resources, practices, and tools to support the team in identifying and hiring the best, most talented people
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting for all Executive level positions
  • Build and continually develop relationships with a pipeline of all-star talent
  • Act as our brand ambassador, building and maintaining the Meetup employment brand and keeping the long-term future of Meetup in mind when bringing on new hires
  • Build a strong, diverse recruiting team and mentor our current team to help develop their skills and advance their career goals in our company
  • Change management; collaborate with the WeWork team to ensure a seamless transition from Greenhouse to Workday, and develop any training program needed during this, and future, conversions
  • Create and conduct internal training on interviewing and recruitment best practices at all levels of the company
  • Provide strategic, operational, and organizational leadership to further develop Meetup’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the broadest sense possible
  • Use HR analytics to assess time to fill open positions, where our best team members come from, and employee retention; utilize results to develop, initiate, and maintain effective programs that engage our employees and develop their skills
  • Manage annual recruiting budget
  • Work with the team in developing and managing relationships with external staffing agencies
  • Stay up-to-date on HR technologies including software, AI, gamification, and blockchain technologies; assess and make a business case for adoption of these new technologies
  • Follow up with candidates and hiring managers to obtain feedback regarding our recruiting process and use that feedback to continually evolve and improve our recruiting practice

Key Requirements:

  • 8+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience in a rapid growth, fast-paced, start-up tech environment
  • At least 3 - 5 years of experience successfully leading, building, and developing recruiting teams
  • Experience taking a company from 100+ employees to double that in 18 months to 2 years
  • Technical recruiting experience is a must including front and backend, core, data, full-stack and infrastructure engineers, mobile, and machine learning

Who you are:

  • Significant management experience including a respected, collaborative, open-minded leadership style that offers a clear sense of direction, holds self and staff accountable, and motivates and inspires staff and colleagues to work hard and well together
  • You know, and are known in, the tech industry; you have a circle of influence and connections and understand the resources required for hiring the best talent in the tech space
  • Experience successfully recruiting Executive and C-Level talent
  • Experience successfully recruiting for engineers and technical roles
  • Able to independently build and manage high volume recruiting processes with minimal oversight
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, interact, influence and negotiate with a variety of internal clients and external candidates at all levels
  • You are a brand ambassador and matchmaker, a born connector who tells our story, and who knows what makes a good fit
  • Advanced knowledge of Greenhouse, Workday, LinkedIn Recruiter, Excel and experience working with Google Apps
  • Comprehensive understanding of state and federal laws regarding Title VII, discrimination, immigration, independent contractor status and FLSA
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential company information and maintain absolute discretion
  • Strong written communication skills, excellent grammar, and spelling
  • You’re adaptable in fast-moving environments and accountable to your team
  • Holding a bachelor’s or advanced degree in human resources, psychology, communications or related field is not required, but a plus

Please include a cover letter with your application telling us why you're a great fit for Meetup.

An Insider's view of Meetup

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Meetup promotes a healthy balance and respect around work life, personal life, and family life. It's not simply policy but instead, the culture that lives with all employees (managers and leaders included). Work happens during our traditional business hours.

Harry Chiu

Head of Recruiting

What does your typical day look like?

As an engineer at Meetup, my mission is to build things that help product teams focus on our users and develop our product faster and with better quality. My team mob programs or pair programs by default, which works great for us because it increases code and architecture, knowledge sharing, focus, productivity and team bonding.

Jaclyn Jiménez

Senior Full Stack Engineer

How does the company support your career growth?

I created my own professional development path by participating in the Employee Resource Group and Diversity & Inclusion council. Participating and organizing these company initiatives allowed me to stretch my leadership muscles, understand the value of empathizing with my colleagues, and appreciate the ability to use my voice to influence change.

Lee Upshur

Pro Support Specialist

What is your vision for the company?

Meetup empowers personal growth through real human connections because we see a future built on deep trust and collective effort. We are creating a world where people can turn to each other to improve their lives. We believe that real, human connection drives real change.

David Siegel

CEO

What's something quirky about your company?

What I enjoy the most about working at Meetup is the people. As a mission driven company with a focus on building community, our community sets a great example. I consider myself incredibly lucky to work amongst such incredible individuals. I feel seen, supported, and empowered to not only be my unique self, but to make the changes I know I can.
