The Impact You'll Make:

Upside is hiring a Director, Total Rewards to oversee and optimize our comprehensive compensation and benefits programs. This strategic player-coach role will manage and run all aspects of US payroll, US benefits, compensation structures, and bonus and equity administration. You will bring a deep understanding of Total Rewards strategy, coupled with hands-on expertise in payroll management and benefits administration. You will report to our Head of People.

Total Rewards Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement a holistic total rewards strategy aligned with organizational goals and industry benchmarks while ensuring competitive positioning through regular analysis and adjustments of compensation and benefits offerings.

Compensation Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of all US compensation programs.
  • Manage compensation for all review cycles, which includes salary, bonus, and equity plans to increase performance and retention.
  • Conduct market analysis and benchmarking to ensure competitive pay practices.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to budget and forecast compensation expenses.
  • Manage relationships with compensation vendors and brokers to improve service delivery and cost-effectiveness.

Payroll Oversight:

  • Oversee the US payroll function to ensure accurate processing of payroll.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding payroll and taxation.
  • Implement best practices for payroll processes, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage relationships with payroll vendors and brokers to improve service delivery and cost-effectiveness.

Benefits Administration:

  • Manage benefit programs, including health, welfare, and retirement plans.
  • Evaluate existing benefits programs and recommend enhancements to improve employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Manage relationships with benefit vendors and brokers to increase service delivery and cost-effectiveness.

Equity administration:

  • Manage our equity compensation plans. This includes the policies for granting, tracking, and reporting equity awards to employees and other partners.
  • Manage relationships with the Equity vendor to improve service delivery

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay current with all regulations related to compensation, benefits, and payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and reporting, including annual audits and filings.

Communication and Education:

  • Develop and facilitate ongoing communication strategies to educate all employees on total rewards programs.
  • Provide guidance to HRBPs and managers on compensation and benefits matters.

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Use data analytics to assess the effectiveness of compensation and benefits programs.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior leadership on compensation trends and program performance.

What You Should Have:

  • Progressive experience in total rewards management at a rapidly scaling company, including hands-on experience with payroll and benefits administration.
  • 5+ years of people management experience, where you were responsible for all facets of an employee's performance management and development plans.
  • Experience adapting to and managing multiple competing priorities and programs within a tight timeframe while producing high-quality results.
  • Highly strategic with financial acumen, whereby you can perform mathematical and statistical ability to model what-if analyses and estimate program costs.
  • Experience communicating with all levels, including Senior Executives
  • Current experience performing job analysis, evaluation, market research, and analysis of salary rates concerning compensation levels, and providing recommendations for job pricing and compensation offers.
  • Advanced skills in Excel; experience leading HRIS system projects

Location:

This is a hybrid role based in either our Washington, D.C. or NYC office. To start, in-office attendance is required twice a week, and it may increase based on project-based needs and/or changes in Upside's in-office policy.

Compensation:

The base salary for this full-time position is $207,000-$229,000 USD per year + bonus (for certain roles) + equity + benefits. The final starting pay will be determined based on job-related qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
