NowThis is seeking a news junkie to join the writing squad of our Snapchat Discover and Special platforms teams. The Editorial Producer, Special Platforms, performs various news writing and copy-editing tasks across NowThis special and emerging platforms, currently Snapchat Discover. Alongside daily copywriting, editorial producers collaborate with the editorial and creative leads to plan and execute special editions slated on the editorial calendar. He/she/they will assist in the publishing workflow for our Snapchat Discover daily edition. The editorial producer should also be equipped to assist with marketing copy attached to the platforms, including crossposts, swag, sizzles, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing headlines, body copy and occasional article-length stories for our daily Snapchat Discover edition, including building ahead stories for weekend editions
  • Channel the NowThis voice and style, creating smart, digestible copy and stories that drive social media conversation
  • Find new and innovative ways to tell the biggest stories of the day in unique short form stories that work on the platform
  • Working side-by-side with news team during major breaking news events to ensure our edition is up to date and accurate
  • Occasionally proofreading, copy-editing and fact-checking peers’ stories
  • Turn around copy and edits on tight deadlines (sometimes 15+ short stories per day)
  • Edit and fact check trending news stories and headlines, sometimes juggling several at once
  • QC final Snaps before publish to ensure spelling, sourcing, and copy meets NowThis style and accuracy standards, ensure all stories are published error-free
  • Work closely with the Editorial Lead to maintain, improve and channel the NowThis voice and tone through all stories and copy

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience writing for a news organization or other digital media publisher
  • A deep interest in daily trending news stories and current events and a willingness to quickly learn about topics you’re not well versed in
  • Obsession with grammar, clarity, and accuracy
  • Proficiency in copywriting, copy editing, CMS fluency
  • Newsroom experience or previous work in fast-paced digital environment is preferred
  • Understanding of or interest in the Snapchat Discover platform a plus
  • Experience working with newsletter or website curation (headlines and subheads) a plus
  • Ability to multi-task is a must
  • You must be a clear communicator: in person, in email, and on Slack
  • Work breaking news and event coverage as needed, sometimes in off-hours
