ABOUT THE TEAM AND ROLE

theSkimm makes it easier to be smarter. theSkimm is looking to hire a Editorial Researcher to support the Editorial Team. The Editorial Researcher will be working closely with the Managing Editors and other editorial staff members to provide in-depth research on a variety of topics for Skimm products across the organization. This person will manage multiple projects at a time that include preparing research for Skimm Notes, helping prep the Skimm Studios team for a big interview, working alongside the social media team to develop engaging and informative video and graphics, and more.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Researching and generating creative ideas and content in-depth research on a variety of topics spanning politics, entertainment, national, and international news for existing and emerging Skimm products, interview prep, and social media support. 
  • Tracking current events and news in real time and curating that information for the Editorial team. 
  • Identifying, understanding, and responding to relevant trends across a variety of topics to ensure timely coverage across theSkimm's products, where appropriate.

WHAT WOULD SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS

  • At least 3 years of experience in TV production, journalism, academic research or equivalent. 
  • An acute attention to detail and dedication to accuracy and journalistic integrity. 
  • Strong information gathering and curation skills, with experience working in a fact-checking capacity. 
  • Passionate about news reporting and journalism with a fluency in the topics driving the national conversation.
  • A track record of working effectively under short deadlines and in high pressure environments. 
  • Being a self-starter AND a team player who goes above and beyond to get the job done.
  • Passion for theSkimm and its mission, and a strong understanding of our brand.
  • Ability to operate under tight deadlines, and prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Bachelor's Degree

WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART

  • The ability to write in the voice of a character.
