EnergyHub empowers utilities and their customers to create a clean, distributed energy future. We help consumers turn their smart thermostats, EVs, batteries, and other products into virtual power plants that keep the grid stable and enable higher penetration of solar and wind power.
EnergyHub is looking for an Energy Data Science Intern to join the Data Science and Power Systems Intelligence team for 6 months. At EnergyHub, you will assist with the development and analysis of state-of-the art algorithms for managing distributed energy resources, such as electric vehicles, thermostats and batteries. You will work with a leading team of data science, optimization, and machine learning experts in the rapidly growing field of distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS).
About the job:
The Energy Data Science Intern will join the Data Science and Power Systems Intelligence team for 20-40 hours per week for 6 months. This position is a great opportunity to join an industry leading data science and algorithm team while also contributing to one of the most important problems of our time: supporting the transition to carbon-free and distributed energy.
Required skills and experience:
We are looking for candidates with some or all of the following skills and experience:
- Completed or currently enrolled in a MS or PhD-level education program in Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field at an accredited educational institution
- Experience with optimization methods and tools, such as mixed integer programming, Pyomo, Gurobi
- A passion for clean energy and solving interesting data science/optimization/control problems
- Experience managing large datasets in Python
Desired skills:
- Familiarity with control methods such as receding horizon control / model predictive control
- Familiarity with large-scale data management tools such as SQL, Snowflake, dbt
- Familiarity with power and energy systems in general and/or distributed energy resource management
- Familiarity with electric vehicle data collection and control methods
Primary project:
The Energy Data Science Intern will primarily support EnergyHub’s EV managed charging Optimization work. In this project we are working to enable groups of electric vehicles to deliver valuable grid services to utilities, such as peak management, carbon reduction, and distribution load management, while also ensuring that customers get the charging that they need at low cost. In support of this work you will help to analyze algorithm performance, improve optimization algorithms and implementation, and develop data visualizations.
Compensation: $35-$40 per hour.
Location: In-person in Burlington, Vermont or Brooklyn, NY
