Android Senior Engineer

| Greater NYC Area
We are The Mobile Bank.
Our vision is to build a bank the world loves to use.
Technology and design empower everything we do.

N26 is Europe’s first Mobile Bank with a full European banking license. We have 2,5 million customers across 24 markets. Our team of over 1000 employees in 4 locations is concentrated on reinventing the banking experience for the digital generation. Valentin Stalf and Maximilian Tayenthal founded N26 in 2013 and launched the initial product in early 2015. Since January 2015, N26 has been available for Android, iOS, and desktop. N26 has raised more than $215 million from investors including Tencent, Allianz X, Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures, Li Ka-Shing’s Horizons Ventures, Earlybird Ventures, Battery Ventures, in addition to members of the Zalando management board, and Redalpine Ventures.

We're looking for you if:

  • You strive to build Android applications that can be summarized as RSA - Responsive, Slick and Attractive. You also understand why RSA is important for a Mobile Bank from a cryptographic point of view.
  • Code quality tingles your senses - you can see, feel and smell the difference between good and bad architecture.
  • You engage in proactive software development but still understand Reactive programming paradigms.
  • You'd rather take a Dagger to your heart than have flaky code sitting around for a long time.
  • Test cases are the first things you think of before building a feature and the last things you check before pushing your code.

Once here, you will:

  • Work in cross-functional teams, understand how the entire puzzle fits together instead of just being a solitary piece
  • Take ownership and have an impact on the product
  • Ask "Why?" and be prepared to be asked "What do you think about it?"
  • Engage in knowledge-sharing within your team as well as beyond
  • Understand and work with Agile development methodologies

What you bring along:

  • Thorough experience with the Android Open Source Platform and Material Design principles
  • Experience with Kotlin
  • Experience with Reactive programming - RxJava/RxAndroid/RxKotlin
  • Able to build software with a focus on testability - Test/Behavior Driven Development, Dependency Injection

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with Model-View-ViewModel architectural patterns
  • Active participant/speaker at meet-ups and conferences in the Android community
 What we offer:
  • Create the environment and process that enables highly effective teams to deliver the best that they can
  • Professional Development Budget of 1500 USD/year
  • 20 days of paid vacation
  • Opportunities to work abroad in Berlin and Barcelona as part of an international team
  • Flexible working hours and a special attention to work-life balance
  • Fixed and fair salary ranges instead of individual negotiation
  • Flat hierarchy and open communication
  • Work in a startup with a growing customer base and an exciting product roadmap
  • A friendly team of colleagues of diverse nationalities, life experiences and family statuses
  • High degree of autonomy in a strong collaborative environment
  • A company committed to championing diversity and inclusion, and supporting colleagues regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, ethnic or national origin
  • The ability to take part in our Get Stuff Done Days

Sound good? Send us your application online, and we’ll get back to you soon.

Location

We are in Hudson Square. It's clean, new, and there is great food all around us!

An Insider's view of N26

What are some social events your company does?

We've had quite a few social events so far, from lunches and happy hours on rooftops to Escape the Room challenges here in our NYC office. In a particularly adventurous outing, the team went to Sleep No More at the McKittrick Hotel. We are a pretty adventurous bunch so we're always coming up with interesting ideas for places to go!

Amaan

Associate Product Manager

What does your typical day look like?

In the mornings, our Berlin and NYC offices are available in both of our timezones. We usually catch up and hold meetings including daily stand-ups. The team typically grabs lunch together around noon. In the latter part of the day, it's usually distraction-free work time; I feel more productive later in the day, so this is great!

Foti

Senior Software Engineer

How does the company support your career growth?

Each employee receives a personal development budget, which we can use for professional development in our fields or in another N26 work field. Whether it’s a marketing conference in LA or a local class on coding, it’s a perk N26 gives us that can help us grow and become a stronger, more productive employee.

Francisco

Talent Sourcing Specialist

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

I think people are inherently creative, but some have been told "no" too many times, where they evolve to be pragmatists. (Not necessarily a bad thing) You encourage the recovery of creativity by not saying no, by listening even to the the most outlandish ideas and taking the time to walk through those ideas with the person, and challenging yours.
