Venmo was founded on the principles of breaking down the intimidating barriers around financial transactions to make them intuitive, friendly, and even fun. And it worked: people love sending money with Venmo, and we’re growing by leaps and bounds!

But we’re only just getting started. We want to take that magic of sending money with Venmo and cascade it into every place where people use money. That means connecting people to their money in the most intuitive and fun way possible, then connecting people with each other. Users already love Venmo, but we know there are lots of things we haven’t thought of to make the experience of using Venmo even more delightful and valuable. The Role

Venmo is seeking passionate backend engineering managers to join our App Experience group. We work together on small, close-knit teams that are passionate about respecting code quality and following our defined best practices, while always searching for new, better ways to get things done. We work closely and quickly with our product and design teams to build, user-test, and iterate on new features with a customer-driven focus. Finally, we value our casual work-hard/play-hard office culture and enjoy our gaming areas, annual hack week, and kitchen stocked with coffee & snacks.

Primary Job Responsibilities

You will be primarily focused on managing a small group of backend engineers. We work on small teams and as a result wear many hats, so you will also be working shoulder to shoulder with team members on delivering new features, reacting to customer feedback & internal user-testing, and helping to ensure quality. Specific responsibilities include:

• Develop people in your team through coaching and mentoring
• Work closely with the recruiting team to hire and onboard engineers
• Advocate for development best practices within your functional area
• Develop new features and bug fixes for our backend
• Iterate with our UX and Product teams in an agile environment to bring features from conception to launch
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and shared knowledge

Minimum qualifications:

• 5 years of hands-on technical experience with 1 year of people management experience
• Hands-on programming experience building APIs in one of the following: Python, Ruby, or Java

 Ideal qualifications:

• 8 years of hands-on technical experience with 3 years of people management experience
• Hands-on programming experience in one of the following: Python, Ruby, or Java
