Job Description

LIMS Software Engineer – Data Management Team, Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO)

 

The Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) enables basic, clinical and translational research projects across the Cancer Center. IGO implements the MSK mission to cure cancer by providing a broad range of genomic services and expertise to our world-class research scientists.

 

We are seeking a software engineer to join the data team who will master IGO’s LIMS, specifically LIMS workflow development and modification. You will join a multifaceted team that develops laboratory support tools, manages NGS data generation from BCL to BAM files, analyzes sequencing data using established pipelines, provides system administration for computational resources, and assists collaborators with data access. Work will be performed in concert with other software engineers, lab technicians, computational biologists, project managers, and genomic sequencing core scientists.

You Are:

  • A customer focused software engineer excited about streamlining the LIMS experience for a cutting-edge genomics laboratory
  • An expert in Java
  • Skilled in Python and/or JavaScript
  • An expert with UNIX/Linux command line
  • A person who enjoys working in a team, is self-motivated, can manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and can solve problems independently
  • Able to work as an individual while part of a large team
  • Able to handle a very fast paced environment and the pressure associated with deadlines
  • An outstanding communicator
  • Able to solve problems by using a logical, systematic, sequential approach

You Have:

  • 2+ years of software development experience, including experience in computer science, bioinformatics or other applied science
  • Experience with object-oriented programming in Java and additional experience with Python and/or JavaScript
  • Familiarity with software testing methodologies and design patterns
  • Experience with relational databases, preferably MySQL
