In today’s marketing environment, brands need more content than ever. The problem is that the traditional means of generating the content that they need doesn’t scale: It’s cost prohibitive and doesn’t yield the diverse photos, videos and text reviews that they need to optimize performance. 

Cohley is changing the way that the world’s best brands generate & test content by connecting them with an expansive network of talented photographers, content creators, videographers and partners. 

About the role: 

As Cohley’s first Chief Technology Officer (CTO) you’ll work directly with the co-founders and executives to design and implement technology business strategies, plans and procedures. This will be a hands-on role where you will oversee all system design and changes in system architecture as well as manage technology budgets and timeframes.

Responsibilities: 

  • Align the company’s technology resources with the organization’s short- and long-term goals
    • Set the company’s technical vision to achieve the organization’s short and long term goals 
  • Define the company’s technical architecture and ensure technical standards, security, and regulatory best practices are met
  • Mentor organizational leaders within engineering
  • In conjunction with the co-founders, develop and implement a technology strategy that supports our business strategies and priorities. Partner with other business leaders to gain adoption and maximize the benefit of our key technology initiatives. 
    • Collaborate with company stakeholders, partners, and investors, to share technology vision, opportunities, and risks to foster adoption  
  • Provide strong, forward-looking analytical leadership
    • Track and manage key metrics such as R&D costs, budget, and business/technical KPIs (Jira, Github, etc.).
  • Ensure technological resources meet the company's short and long-term needs.
    • Evaluate overall operations and technology functions and recommend enhancements
  • Create and manage timelines for the development and deployment of all technological services.

  • Effectively manage direct reports, with oversight of platform and program management, engineering, security and data compliance, help-desk/tech support, and all IT/IS operations.

      • Establish and implement short and long-term goals and timelines, and provide frequent team feedback.

  • Collaborate with other senior leaders across the company to understand their priorities, to keep them informed of the status of IT initiatives and projects, performance against planned objectives, and future strategic directions and associated impact on expenses.

  • Evaluate external advancements in the IT industry to improve customer/user satisfaction, reduce operating expenses and maximize revenues.
    • Evaluate and implement improvements to the current system for ongoing innovation and disruption in the industry.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in software development
    • 15+ years of proven success in a complex, technological environment with increasing responsibility in product development leadership
  • Proven experience as Chief Technology Officer or relevant role
    • Experienced leader who has had accountability and authority over recruiting, managing, training / mentoring, and retaining a team of ambitious and highly skilled data scientists /engineers.
  • Startup experience
  • Experience in effectively managing and interacting with distributed and off-shore teams 
    • You will Interact with the Development Squads, the Product, DevOps/Infrastructure and QA areas
  • Ensure the implementation of the architecture, design, good practices and code quality patterns
  • Strong experience developing web applications and software engineering best practices 
  • Familiarity with continuous integrations and continuous deployment
  • Experience with front-end JavaScript frameworks, such as Vue.js or Node.js
  • Experience with back-end frameworks such as Django or Flask
  • Strong experience working with large scale distributed systems, scalability, high-performance computing with a proven ability to speak authoritatively about architectural, design, and implementation details
  • Experience in applying data analysis techniques to a large set of data using big data systems such as Hadoop, Spark, MongoDB, NoSQL, or other Mapreduce Software
  • Experience analyzing large data sets, and applying a variety of statistical techniques such as regression, discriminant analysis, cluster analysis, or Bayesian Theory
  • Experience with SQL querying and knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL databases
  • Design complex and efficient data structures and algorithms to maximize code performance
  • Effective negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership skills to support team mentoring through rapid growth
