Job Description


SIMON is looking for a passionate Cloud Architect Lead to join a team of engineers to deliver state-of-the-art cloud solutions. As a Cloud Architect you will work closely with the Application Developers, DevOps team, Infrastructure team and Security team to guide and build robust, secure cloud solutions for the SIMON Platform.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential

  • Provide technical leadership to engineers and focus on delivery of secure, cost effective, and scalable solutions
  • Drive technical design discussions and build consensus with the engineering teams
  • Keep abreast of new AWS technologies and adopt them as relevant to improve the SIMON Cloud platform
  • Provide training, learning sessions, and resources on AWS technologies to the various engineering teams
  • Review and validate new system architecture to ensure successful implementation
  • Understand the big picture quickly from requirements in order to build a robust, reliable systems
  • Develop and build protypes in a relatively short time to prove system viability before full-scale implementation
  • Take ownership of AWS resource cost monitoring and budgeting and provide cost saving measures as relevant
  • Participate in Well-Architected and security reviews of the SIMON platform
  • Participate in troubleshooting system issues as required and provide input into post-mortem on production incidents

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering discipline
  • 10 – 15 years hands-on experience with AWS services, including 5 years as a Cloud Architect building scalable solutions
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
  • Hands-on experience architecting, designing, and implementing AWS cloud systems
  • Advanced knowledge of IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, and Serverless Framework
  • Understanding of internet-facing web applications
  • Thorough understanding of cloud security
  • Experienced in one or more of the software languages like Python, Java, Go, etc.
  • Hands-on experience architecting, designing, and implementing AWS cloud systems
  • Advanced experience with AWS technologies like EKS, ECR, Lambda, Event Bridge, API Gateway, EFS, SNS, Kinesis, SM, Route53, AirFlow, ALBs, RDS, DynamoDB, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with all Engineers, Project Managers, Product Managers, and Management
  • Takes joy in working with a team that is constantly experimenting and iterating quickly to build stable solutions

No matter which part of the team you join, there is something interesting to work on. Our front-end team is building out our web and mobile presence using React, Redux, and Webpack along with some very sophisticated data visualizations. Our back-end team is using Scala, Akka, Postgres and other open-source technologies to build a micro-services architecture that can scale to handle our ambitious roadmap. Our quantitative engineering team is researching and building novel financial strategies to widen our competitive advantage. Our dev-ops team is creating a development and production environment with Docker and Kubernetes to keep us nimble. Product Management sits in the middle of it all to make it happen.

Location

While we transitioned seamlessly into a flexible work-from-home model in March 2020, we recently opened expansive tech-ready, and flexible new office spaces in NYC and Birmingham, AL for any vaccinated teammates who wish to take advantage.

What are some social events your company does?

SIMON offers many opportunities to hang out outside of work. Events range from spontaneous happy hours at the end of the day to team dinners to all-company parties (remote participants are welcome too!). Just in the last few months we’ve hosted a salsa dancing class (my personal favorite!), had a pumpkin carving party, and gone to a Mets’ game!
