Job Description
What You’ll Do
- Analyze current technology utilized within the company and develop steps and processes to improve and expand upon them
- Deliver on requested dependencies and BAU work in a timely matter
- Mentor and train other engineers throughout the company and seek to continually improve processes companywide
- Work alongside project management teams to successfully monitor progress and implementation of initiatives
- Automate Automate Automate – several initiatives currently ongoing to further automate the more mundane tasks and free up work up time for the team to do more project based work.
- On-call rotation – one-week long rotation to provide after-hours support and escalations as needed in case of production issues
What You Bring to the Table
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering and/or 5-7 years equivalent work experience.
- Strong system administration (Linux/Unix, RHEL is the inhouse flavor) at the command-line level.
- Strong scripting skillset.
- Understanding of Multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking.
- Understanding of cloud security best practices.
- Experience with templates and other configurable items to enable automation. (Terraform and Ansible)
- Familiarity with deployment techniques (and tools) in a distributed environment (Jenkins, Packer, etc)
- Basic monitoring techniques in a dynamic environment.
- Design of self-healing and fault-tolerant services.
- Familiarity with containers and container automation
- Familiarity developing with and/or using RESTful API interfaces.
- Familiarity with messaging and queuing services. (IBM Websphere MQ, Kafka)
- Familiarity with enterprise hardware and storage (Cisco UCS)
- Infrastructure as Code: design and security, configuration management, integration, deployment, performance monitoring and tuning, automation of infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of one or more high-level programming languages (Python, etc.).
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and take action on it.
- Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.
