The Digital Marketing Software Engineer will be responsible for bringing Newsela’s digital strategy to life across Newsela.com and our other digital touchpoints. You will develop, scale, and maintain our marketing site architecture, infrastructure, and tech stack. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing our digital projects from scoping and requirement gathering, all the way through sign-off, QA, launch, and ongoing optimization.  You’ll build engaging and interactive web pages that are optimized to be mobile responsive and SEO friendly, and will work to create the reusable modules and components that enable site updates made by our Marketing team. You will create and maintain site UI, marketing tools, and content publishing workflows, and will oversee our web analytics and reporting systems. You’ll also lead the charge on troubleshooting and resolving issues related to digital asset development including debugging, new development, and testing.

Why You'll Love This Role:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering Operations, you will partner closely with our Marketing team to be the technical voice during the discovering process, all the way through to solution delivery. This role gets you flexing your digital design skills, as well as your expertise in software development. You get to be part of a team that designs solutions as well as builds them; you will be shaping the product to ensure that beautifully designed features are shipped to Newsela’s national user base. As we scale, you’ll be releasing code daily. And because we're a technology company focused on improving the way students learn, you’ll be part of an engineering culture that values teaching, learning, and questioning. You’ll receive close mentorship from your team, and regular one-on-one’s, all to ensure you’re growing technical skills and interests.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have 5+ years of experience in front end web development, with strong hand coding experience in HTML, CSS (with a working understanding of HTML5, CSS3, Responsive Design, modern web standards and accessibility techniques), JavaScript (JQuery), AJAX, JSON and responsive design frameworks (Bootstrap). You have experience managing and updating a portfolio of websites with frequent updates, and ideally have experience as a WordPress administrator along with experience in website analytic tools. You possess expert-level knowledge of Contentful, in addition to knowledge of designing and/or querying relational databases (MySQL). Ideally you are a software engineer with a passion for marketing, and can incorporate strong UI/UX design, B2B digital marketing best practices, and marketing technology expertise into your development projects. You have experience in Enterprise B2B including working with CRM (Salesforce) and marketing automation platforms (Pardot, Marketo, Eloqua).
