About the role
We're looking for a Director of Engineering (Mobile) to own the Radar SDKs, which have been installed on over 100M devices over the past year. This includes includes 2 core SDKs for Android and iOS (open sourced here and here), and several cross platform libraries that are thin wrappers around the core libraries. The Radar SDKs provide simple "tracking options" on top of standard OS location and beacon primitives, enabling developers to quickly build location based experiences like curbside-pickup, location-based push notifications, on-premise experiences, and more.
You will report to our CTO.
What you’ll do:
- Work with Product Managers and Mobile Engineers to create world-class open-source mobile infrastructure
- Create team roadmaps, solicit and synthesize feedback and present at company all-hands forums
- Review Pull Requests across all SDK repos and occasionally write code
- Be a steward of Radar's high performance culture
- Help the team stay connected to the needs of our customers
- Own the quality and internal dogfooding of Radar's iOS and Android SDKs, along with thin wrapper SDKs in React Native, Flutter, Capacitor, Cordova, and Xamarin
- Help the mobile team push the boundaries of what's possible with CLLocationManager, GeofencingClient and FusedLocationProvider
- Own the Radar Toolkit Apps in the Play store and App Store
- Review documentation Pull Requests across all SDK repos and occasionally write documentation
You have:
- Lead high-performing mobile teams
- 10+ years of engineering experience
- Worked on a Mobile app with 10's of millions of installations
- Worked on an SDK, and understand the engineering challenges specific to SDKs
- Experience building Android infrastructure
- Experience with background location or network infrastructure with respect to Doze mode, Wake Locks, Background Execution Limits, App Standby Buckets, and Foreground Services
- Experience with Android Core Vitals, and the contributing factors from Partial Wake Locks, Excessive Wakeups, Background WiFi scans; how to triage them with Battery Historian
- Experience with FusedLocationProvider, GeofencingClient and Beacon monitoring and ranging
