About the role
We're looking for a Director of Engineering (Platform) to own the Radar backend infrastructure that supports 300M+ api calls per day, peaking at 10,000 qps, from 100M devices over the past year. This includes api's, databases, caches, data lake, dev ops tooling and SRE. At its core, Radar is a data-intensive, high-throughput application, so reliable and global infrastructure is critical.
You will report to our CTO.
What you’ll do:
- Grow the Platform team from a 2-person to a 10-person team by the end of 2022, introducing a second layer of management as needed
- Create team roadmaps, solicit and synthesize feedback and present at company all-hands forums
- Help the team stay connected to the needs of our customers
- Support the team's deployment of Terraform for IaC
- Support the team's multi-region strategy, going from 1 region to multiple regions in 2022
- Support the team's quality work on PlaceRank and Radar's Places point-of-interest database
You have:
- Worked on a high-throughput data intensive production application
- Lead high-performing infrastructure teams
- Worked at a scaling startup that values moving quickly
- Worked on an AWS based application
- Familiarity with Docker, MongoDB, Redis, Athena, Airflow, Typescript, Python, and Scala
- Familiarity with Search and Ranking types of infrastructure
- Familiarity with, or a desire to learn Geo Engineering
