We are looking for a strong engineering leader with a deep passion for technology and a proven record of leading strong technical teams to build innovative, category-creating products. Technological innovation is the great enabler for our mission to change the world of wealth management and make it accessible to all. Core to this mission is the design, creation and shipping of engaging desktop and mobile applications that delight and captivate investors, and help them navigate the complex and often confusing world of structured finance. Our product and design team has a stellar track record of imagining and designing experiences to do just that. Your role will be to manage and oversee the engineering team that bring these experiences to life.

What you'll do

  • First and foremost, be a strong leader and nurturer of engineering talent. 
  • Work with product and technology leadership to retain and continuously groom a strong engineering culture.
  • Provide air cover to the engineering team to enable them to do their best, and then some. 
  • Cultivate an environment of inclusion and collaboration. Engineers can do a lot more than code. Provide them the space to do it. 
  • Be a mentor and guide to the engineering team, grooming future leaders and ensuring the team members have the space to grow professionally. 
  • Be a master of process. No single software development process works everywhere. Continuously refine our software development with a goal of maximizing impact in a measurable way. 
  • In collaboration with product leadership, maintain and groom a strong backlog of innovative products and features. 
  • Work cross-collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization, including product, growth, investor relations, investments and finance, to ensure that we are working on the highest value, highest impact products and features and provide clarity and context to the engineering teams.
  • Work with the CTO and CPO to do capacity and resource planning as we scale the engineering organization

What you'll need

  • 8+ years of experience managing and scaling engineering teams in a distributed environment
  • An eye for finding talent, and an aptitude to be a mentor to the talent you find
  • Ability to break down complexity and provide guidance to the team on architecture and process
  • Vision and experience to visualize a product at scale, and define a growth plan to meet that scale
  • An engineering mindset and readiness to jump in and get your hands dirty if needed
  • Hands-on experience in the YieldStreet technology stack: React/React-Native, Java, relational databases (MySQL, Postgres), transient and persistent NoSQL stores (Redis, Cassandra, DynamoDB), and message brokers (Kafka)
  • Familiarity with the AWS cloud computing environment (bonus points for containerized deployments like Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Ability to clearly communicate product decisions and the rationale behind them, tailoring your verbal and written communications to your audience
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to lead through influence rather than direct authority

Bonus point for

  • Experience building consumer financial products
  • Microservice architectures, Akka and the Play framework
  • Leading offshore or nearshore engineering teams
  • Experience building CI/CD toolchains like Ansible and Jenkins

Location

We're located in a beautiful new office in Midtown with a balcony overlooking Park Avenue, close to Grand Central and most major subway lines. We are headquartered in NYC and also have offices in Miami, Boston, Greece, Malta and Brazil.
