As an engineering lead at Skillshare, you’ll have a direct impact on how teachers share their expertise, how students find and watch content that excites them, and how we're presenting our platform to the world. The team’s work draws from a deep understanding of our users’ needs, working with product and data experts to build a robust and delightful experience for our students and teachers. You will collaborate with your fellow engineers, product managers, engineering managers, designers, and analysts to plan out and implement new initiatives.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for guiding your team both as a mentor and through the cultivation of our core product systems and architecture.

What you'll do:

  • Participate in daily stand-ups, bi-weekly sprint planning, and sprint retrospectives for the team (we work in agile here)
  • Facilitate ticket assignment – you know the strengths of engineers on your team, and when to give them new challenges to help them grow
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to determine longer-term roadmaps
  • Collaborate with engineering managers to help your teammates grow and develop
  • Build the product! A solid portion of this role will be hands-on writing code, and we’ll look to your senior expertise to set the standard for the team.
  • Review code and provide technical mentorship to engineers on your team (and across the company)

Why we’re excited about you:

  • You’re an experienced full-stack engineer with a history of leading teams in this capacity.
  • We use PHP, NodeJS, and React, but experience with any web development technologies is fantastic!
  • You enjoy mentoring and leading teams.
  • You bring a thoughtful approach to coding, testing, and technical documentation to the table, and you’re ready to help continually improve processes.
  • You’re interested in emerging technologies and excited to help push the boundaries of Skillshare’s platform offerings.

Why you're excited about us:

  • Growth: You’ll have the opportunity to interact with colleagues across disciplines, and have opportunities for greater impact over time.
  • Our team: We have a passionate, talented team that is a lot of fun to work with.
  • Our mission: We’re doing work that matters – connecting lifelong learners around the world and empowering them to pursue their creativity.
  • Flexibility: We believe that doing your best work means living a full life. That means different things for everyone, so we optimize for trust, invest to support remote teams, have an unlimited vacation policy (with a required minimum!), and encourage work-life balance.
