Who is MANTL?

MANTL is a fast-growing NYC-based FinTech SaaS company on a mission to build technology that will help America’s financial institutions and their communities thrive. Think Shopify, but purpose-built for community banks and credit unions. Our software helps level the playing field for smaller banks and credit unions by providing them a state of the art online experience.

Our flagship product, Online Account Opening, has quickly become considered best in class in our industry, showing clear and material performance beyond any of our competitors. Suffice it to say, our customers love MANTL.

Since launching our first product in 2017, we have built several new products, thoughtfully grown the team, and have become a market leader.

Who makes up our team?

People are our most important asset and the number one reason we all love working at MANTL. As a team, we value accountability, transparency and collaboration. We have agile teams, with clear, outcomes-focused goals.

We're a group of passionate technologists that support an open and transparent culture that helps foster productive and engaging discussions. We want to work with inclusive people who understand the importance of treating their colleagues exceptionally well - people who will gladly go out of their way to help others with things big and small. We are always a work in progress and love hearing feedback from our team.

MANTL was proud to be named as one of Crain's 100 Best Places To Work in 2020.

Engineering Manager, Configuration Team

MANTL is seeking an engineering manager to lead our configuration team. This is a high visibility and high-impact role accountable for meeting our company goal of getting our customers "live" faster once they've signed a contract. This role can be based in our NYC office or remote.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage a team of 6-10 engineers.
  • Identify opportunities that will help team members grow their skills and advance their careers.
  • Partner with recruiting to grow the team and fill in gaps in team capabilities and knowledge as appropriate.
  • Contribute to architecture and design decisions, understanding the overall company priorities and thus driving the right trade-off decisions within the team.
  • Partner with product management and technical program management to keep a well-groomed backlog for the team, and prioritize incoming work appropriately.
  • Advocate and drive for best practices in technical disciplines across MANTL’s ecosystem (testing, logging, design patterns, and more).
  • Take product features from start to finish, taking high level asks and translating them into concrete designs, tickets, and implementations.

About You:

  • You care about the engineers on your team as people, and talk about "staffing" instead of "resourcing" (unless we're talking about servers)
  • You have an engineering background, and have worked as an individual contributor previously. You're able to understand the code your team is writing, even if you yourself are no longer actively writing code in your day-to-day.
  • You bias towards clean, throughly documented, and well-tested code, with an eye for long term viability and performance.
  • You enjoy the challenge of breaking down complex product asks into elegant solutions, leveraging design patterns, test driven development, domain driven design, and other best practices to build the best system you can.
  • You are comfortable and experienced with system design, and not only have architectural opinions but are comfortable writing, speaking and advocating for them.
  • You approach architectural challenges not with answers but with questions, and from those questions decide upon the best approach, knowing that there is no best solution, only different sets of tradeoffs to be made.
  • You enjoy providing technical guidance, suggestions, and code reviews for your teammates, using your knowledge to raise the bar of their work as well.

An Insider's view of MANTL

What’s the vibe like in the office?

I was initially a bit apprehensive about the idea of working in the FinTech space, as I had heard horror stories of tense work environments, exceptionally long working hours and closed-off office culture. Mantl caught me off guard by rejecting these standards and offering a human-centric, open work environment for me to do my best work in.

Leo Wicht

Lead Engineer

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

Banking technology is falling far behind the consumer fintechs out there, yet millions of customers in the US still use community banks. Banks need better customer-facing products, or they will disappear.

Mike Bosserman

VP of Growth

How does the company support your career growth?

While working at Mantl, I have been tasked with a variety of diverse and important projects that have given me the opportunity to learn new technologies, design patterns, and best practices. In addition, I have been given a level of autonomy and responsibility over my work that would not have been possible at a larger company.

Thuy Dao

Software Engineer

What is your vision for the company?

Our vision for MANTL is to be the technology platform that powers our financial ecosystem. We're starting with the regional and community banks in the U.S. who are reliant on crumbling legacy infrastructure, and need our help to give their customers and employees modern tools and experiences.

Nathaniel Harley

Co-founder, CEO

What makes someone successful on your team?

At Mantl, we empower everyone to think big and constantly raise the bar to develop innovative solutions that not only meet, but exceed our customers’ expectations. We value transparency and integrity to do what’s right for our customers without compromise.

Lidia Shong

Senior Director of Marketing
