The Opportunity

Bring your expertise to a highly collaborative, creative, and innovative team with a market-leading technology product suite. We hire technologists with a broad set of technical skills who are eager to solve a wide range of challenges. The thread that unites us at Chronograph is a focus on delivering great, performant products that drive value for our clients.

We are seeking a hand-on Engineering Manager to oversee our proprietary data extraction and management platform that enables our broader product suite for institutional investors. This internal platform and focus area encompassess workflows, document management, machine-learning enabled extraction (in collaboration with our dedicated ML team), data pipelines, and other related areas of process-oriented technology.

We hire engineers with a broad set of technical skills, who are highly cross-functional and eager to solve a wide range of engineering challenges. In general we work on a full-stack basis, and for this role we are looking for someone who can both understand the architecture and code, as well as drive an overall product vision. This role will collaborate closely with Chronograph’s Engineering leadership and Data Operations organization (i.e. internal end users, which allows for a tight and expert-level feedback loop).

Our ideal candidate has a strong sense of ownership and enjoys driving projects from inception to planning to execution in production. We value people who take pride in their work and show an aptitude for learning quickly whether they’re familiar with our stack or not. You'll be working with a nimble team of committed and talented engineers with an engineering culture centered on continuous learning, collaborative knowledge sharing, and both personal and team development.

As a hands-on Engineering Manager focused on our data management capabilities, you will:

  • Collaborate to define and drive a product vision for a key element of our overall business strategy
  • Lead a team of engineers and contribute solutions focused on workflows, document management, machine-learning enabled extraction (in collaboration with our dedicated ML team), data pipelines, and other related areas of process-oriented technology
  • Identify opportunities for adopting new technologies and patterns
  • Design robust, performant, extensible, and secure data structures and APIs
  • Develop deep understanding of internal data management use cases to deliver creative and thoughtful solutions
  • Collaborate closely across the organization to build and refine processes to ensure efficient growth into the future
  • Help continue to build a world-class Engineering team to enable this effort, shaping both technical direction and team composition as we scale
  • Help attract, interview, and onboard your future team members during this exciting time of growth

Examples of the types of issues our data management platform and team helps address:

  • Automating data extraction from highly complex private capital reports
  • Deploying event-driven data pipelines via serverless architecture
  • Working with our Machine Learning team to build out predictive analytics
  • Building internal toolsets to facilitate efficient delivery of client implementations
  • Moving offline human-driven processes into a modern application workflow
  • Enhancing overall productivity and output of our client-facing Data Operations team(s)

You will be successful in this role if you have:

  • Eight (8) years or more of professional development experience
  • Strong analytical, team management, project leadership and communication skills
  • A passion for maintainable, readable, stable, secure, and scalable code
  • Track record of shipping high quality SaaS products and features at scale
  • Interest in progressive architecture patterns, including serverless, microservices, event-driven applications, and distributed systems
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor and creativity
  • Familiarity with or desire to learn our tech stack which includes but is not limited to AWS, Serverless, Node.js, GraphQL, Python, React, PostgreSQL, Snowflake (or data warehousing generally), and machine learning pipelines / ETLs
