Ticketing is a complex, historically opaque industry with a unique set of challenges. At SeatGeek, we look to open ticketing with new technology, thoughtful interfaces, and an above-all-else focus on our users.

We are looking for a tech lead or manager who can help us scale up our AppSec team and safely empower our engineering teams. SeatGeek is a product-centric organization that deploys code into production many times per day. As we grow, the scale of our technical challenges - and their effect on our customers - continue to increase. We want to ensure we continue to build and secure the best product and team we can.

What you'll do

  • Manage a team of AppSec engineers.
  • Develop and lead the Application Security program and roadmap.
  • Partner closely with Engineering leaders to understand how products can be improved to better detect malicious activity and protect our customers.
  • Encourage and train developers in secure coding practices.
  • Provide regular job performance feedback, hold one-on-ones, and provide career development support to your direct reports.
  • Guide the team to improve operational and engineering best practices to keep our development machine humming.
  • Play an active role in our recruiting process, helping us to grow our engineering team in any way you can.
  • Perform code reviews and provide technical and design feedback to the team.
  • Communicate technical and product decisions to the right people, resolve blocking issues, and collaborate with other leaders across the organization.
  • ...and if you have any free time after doing all of that stuff, writing code is always a good way to stay sharp!

Who you are

  • You have experience building highly performant systems, with at least 5 years as an engineer in a role that was mostly about writing code and at least 3 years of experience as an engineering manager of productive, motivated teams.
  • You have irreproachable technical skills, and your team should look up to you as a mentor. With your knowledge of industry technology trends you can help your team make good tooling and framework decisions setting them up for success.
  • You understand how to lead by setting context and facilitating collaboration between product, design, engineering and business leaders.

The tools we use

You absolutely do not need experience with all of these, but we thought you might be curious. Tools can be learned, so we care much more about your general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language.

  • Languages: Python (our primary language), C#/.NET Core, and Go
  • Datastores: Postgres, Redis, RabbitMQ, and Elasticsearch
  • Server: Nginx, Tornado and flask for Python, all running on AWS
  • Vuln Mgmt: Snyk, SonarQube, Burp, Tenable

Perks

  • Equity stake in a well-funded growth stage company
  • A hybrid in-office approach, allowing you to work remotely a couple of days a week
  • A WFH stipend to support your home office setup
  • The ability to work from anywhere up to four weeks per year with SeatGeek on Tour
  • Benefits package that supports health/dental/vision. We also provide annual subscriptions to Headspace, Ginger.io, and One Medical
  • A focus on transparency. We have regular company meetings and Q&A panels where employees can chat openly with teams across SeatGeek, our co-founders, and external guests from the industry
  • $120 a month to spend on tickets to live events
  • Annual subscription to Spotify, Apple Music, or Amazon music

An Insider's view of SeatGeek

What are some social events your company does?

The importance of gathering is baked into our DNA at SeatGeek! We always take time to celebrate milestones together, whether in person or virtually, and, while we throw an amazing End of Year party, my favorite events are a little more personal! We empower employees to create their own social events from fitness classes to crafting or or tv nights!

Workplace & People Programs Manager

What projects are you most excited about?

An ongoing project I am excited about is the redesign of one of the core flows in our app. It is a high impact, cross functional initiative and I love how we’ve been able to implement a new technical foundation, introduce new features, and improve the user experience. I’m looking forward to the initial release and gathering insights from consumers!

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

We encourage teams to solve problems and create delightful customer experiences, not implement pre-defined solutions. Our teams leverage research/data to understand our customers needs and behaviors, but we also believe that giving teams the space to be creative during a discovery phase opens the possibilities of what they can come up with.
