Responsibilities:

• Manage and coach a team of talented software engineers and machine learning engineers
• Manage the projects, workflows, and roadmap of the team, including Agile cadence and organization
• Organize and manage R&D, architectural design, and execution
• Manage the development of scalable and robust systems
• Identify and track critical diagnostic metrics for the health and growth of our core technologies
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies, processes, and policies when necessary.
• Partner with a senior technical leader to drive the quality and direction of Foursquare’s Places Database, both as a standalone product and as the dataset underpinning Foursquare’s core visit detection technology, developer API, and other enterprise product offerings.
• Work with product teams and other department stakeholders to align on and drive forward broad engineering and company initiatives
• Grow and build a diverse and effective team by recruiting for the team, establishing hiring goals, interviewing norms, and evolving the onboarding process for new team members
• Work closely with external strategic clients to grow partnerships, learn about the market, and advance our technical capabilities

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of proven experience in software engineering/development or project management
• 2+ years experience managing people and/or projects on a product or engineering team
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey intricate systems and logic to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Track record of shipping and scaling high-quality software systems as an individual contributor and manager
• Motivational skills and the ability to align teams toward company goals and vision
• You consider yourself a player-coach, with the ability to jump into an IDE and help get a feature shipped when needed
• Strong desire to tackle large-scale problems and big-data problems
• 2+ years experience working with geospatial datasets and/or on data quality problems preferred
