Job Description

ENGINEERING MANAGER 

The Tech Incubation team aspires to stretch and transform the existing boundaries in cancer care at the confluence of tech and health. We function as a pipeline for innovation that supports bold, scientific experimentation with new technologies in a variety of breakthrough domains that shape MSK’s digital transformation. The team is a multidisciplinary group of designers, engineers and data scientists whose activities range from basic tech research, to proof of concept and design work, to streamlined pilots and evaluations of new technologies in production clinical and business environments. We also reach beyond institutional walls to forge collaborations with academic, startup, and established industry partners to accelerate and augment these activities. 

 

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON? 

As an Engineering Manager at MSK, you will be building products that directly impact people's lives. Tech incubation is searching for someone who will create, lead and manage the multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for ideation and creation of various products and platforms.  

 

WHO ARE WE?  

We are an experienced multidisciplinary team that covers the full lifecycle of project development, from idea stage all the way to production ready. We operate in a product model where you will work in a team of talented software engineers, as well as data scientists and designers. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Overseeing the engineering pipeline which includes QA, Front End, Back End, and DevOps and the respective team members.  
  • Guiding the engineering team about testing and code that include system design decisions 
  • Sharing knowledge of good engineering methodologies such as release processes used to define how we work in order to achieve excellence 
  • Creating team roadmaps and goals to promote timely and agile delivery  
  • Mentoring team members to grow in their careers through continuous and honest feedback, one-on-one conversations, career growth plans, and end of the year evaluations.  
  • Collaborating very closely with Product Managers during planning sessions to help inform product roadmaps, provide the feasibility and high-level estimate of product features, etc. 
  • Identifying the recruitment needs of the engineering team and working very closely with recruiting to source, interview, hire and successfully onboard top talent into the engineering team

 

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE 

  • 8+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years leading teams and initiating/driving projects; Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.  
  • Strong knowledge of backend and data engineering; programming languages, SQL, ETL tools, modern practices such as CI/CD, exposure to relational/non-relational databases, & familiarity with cloud providers  
  • Roll up your sleeves mindset and willingness to navigate technical problems 
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills to verbally rationalize priorities and justify goals with the engineering team 
  • Eager to collaborate and excited to mentor across diverse teams with varied technical backgrounds.  
  • Demonstrates a friendly, thoughtful approach while upholding diversity & inclusion, an open mind, and an empathetic point of view Knowledge of SAFe and agile development preferred 
  • A leader that is a strong communicator both oral and written, a problem-solver able to both direct the team and work independently on multiple projects with good follow through, and accountable and proud of the work both you and your team produce.
