Job Description

The Department of Medical Physics is seeking a Engineering Specialist for their Biomedical Engineering Team.  The main function of this role is to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide variety of radiological, diagnostic, and therapeutic systems or clinical/biomedical electronic or electro mechanical equipment systems.  Also, this role will provide engineering expertise in all aspects of evaluation, selection, installation, maintenance, calibration, operation, and safety of these systems. 

 

You Will: 

  • Implement a program of repair, calibration, and periodic maintaince.  Inspect equipment for electrical/mechanical safety and analyzes malfunctions minimizing hazards to patients and medical staff.  Implements emergency repairs with minimal disruption of vital services coordinating with clinical departments involved.
  • Assists in the scheduled periodic maintenance (PM) and safety testing of biomedical electronic equipment or performs preventive maintenance, recommending techniques to improve on established methods.  Prepares service reports of maintenance work performed, maintaining documentation on modifications and other related activities in the biomedical equipment database.  Contacts vendors/suppliers as required.
  • Suggests and implements modifications and changes to equipment or systems in conjunction with manufacturers input and needs of medical staff to enhance the performance, reliability, functionality, and safety.  May design or modify the construction of electronic equipment systems for department/hospital use.
  • Investigates and reviews incidents to define cause and suggest corrective action.
  • Evaluates equipment prior to the purchase and oversees the installation of new equipment coordinating activities with other vendors, clinical departments, and facilities management.    Performs acceptance checks and certifies equipment performance per manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Provides training and in-service education on all aspects of equipment function, application, and electrical safety and provides operational/safety information to other departments as required.
  • Maintains and updates database inventory of machine service histories.  Maintains knowledge of inventory level of critical components and recommends purchase of parts and components as necessary.
  • As delegated, may lead the work of Biomedical Technicians or Engineering Specialists, and coordinate coworker task groups.
  • Performs special projects as directed by supervisor.

You Have: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience or Masters Degree and 2 years of experience.
  • Clinical Engineering Certification is preferred.
  • Analog, digital, and microprocessor electronics design/control experience.
  • Relational Database experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with a wide variety of test instrumentation.
  • Capable of interpreting diagrams, prints, drawings, and manufacturers technical manuals.
  • Understanding of principles of particle accelerators with knowledge necessary to accomplish on-site repairs.
