Why is a Technical Lead important to us? 

Shapeways is looking for a Technical Lead to join our engineering team. Our ideal candidate is a great collaborator who exhibits leadership and influence well beyond themselves.  The candidate should be known for drama-free launches, and own the technical testing and performance planning side of large and complex projects. As a Technical Lead you will:

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and business stakeholders to continuously innovate on cutting edge projects

  • Understand the tradeoffs between technical, analytical and product goals, and strive to create solutions that satisfy all of these goals

  • Take ownership of a product area and its technology stack to ensure continuous delivery of product objectives

  • Promote the adoption of new technologies while continuously advancing and evolving our legacy codebase

  • Collaborate with our tech team members to refine our best practices and processes

  • Participate in code reviews, write automated tests, and help define our technology roadmap

  • Identify big issues and opportunities in the technology and organization, and work across teams to create solutions to these issues

  • Effectively delegate work to team members, empowering them to succeed by taking ownership and providing autonomy

You might be a good fit if you (have, possess, are): 

  • 10+ years of programming experience designing and developing systems

  • 3+ years in a supervisory role - management experience with the ability to coach and inspire others

  • Knowledge of various software development methodologies and best practices

  • Comfortable working with, and helping to modernize, a legacy framework/codebase

  • Adept in database design, query optimizations, and performance tuning

  • Solid understanding of MVC frameworks like Symfony, Laravel, Zend, etc.

  • Prior experience integrating 3rd party API's and interfaces

  • Working knowledge of Linux/UNIX systems

  • Prior experience in writing Unit/Functional/E2E tests

  • Good communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Nice-to-haves:

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP

  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Kanban methodologies

  • Working knowledge of PHP, Java, Python, Mysql, Postgres, or similar

  • Some knowledge of E-commerce and/or production manufacturing systems
