Impact & Scope

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Engineer to join our team, focused on building and enhancing our technology ecosystem. This role can be based anywhere. You will report to the VP of University Partnerships and work collaboratively and cross-functionally to provide excellent technology solutions that enable marketing, product, service, and partner management groups to delight customers and meet business objectives.

The Full Stack Engineer is a generalist technologist role that helps deliver value for our customers along the full stack of KUP customer experience. Using a distributed set of cloud based services, internal microservices and some serverless functions you will ensure that customers and partners have the tools required to achieve their goals. In this role, you’ll take ownership of an early product concept that is thriving with new users looking to explore new avenues of learning and growth. It’s your responsibility to ensure the ongoing superiority of the platform while working with real-time customer data and insights to help the business scale and grow the platform to meet the ever evolving needs of our customer base. As a cross functional leader you’ll make technical decisions that impact the entire team, help partners make choices that lead to successful outcomes and evolve the technology stack to innovate new products and features that delight, engage and educate our customers.
 

What you’ll do each day

  • Acts as the primary technical point of view of a fast-paced, agile, cross functional team of experts.

  • Provides expert technical recommendations and guidance on relevant industry trends to cross functional partners.  

  • Develop innovative algorithms using cutting edge platforms, services and cloud based technology working directly with our educational subject matter experts.

  • Responsible for producing high quality production code on a cyclical and consistent basis.

  • Review, analyze and comprehend systems specifications, business requirements, capabilities and limitations of existing software/hardware environments.

  • Helps establish and maintain data streams to source insights to the business wherever possible.

  • Maintain and evolve our CI/CD process.

  • Measure and accurately maintain qualitative and quantitative analysis of team velocity and shipping health.  

  • Design, prototype and build user interfaces & POCs with a focus on radical customer value.
     

You Have...

  • 3-5 years experience in modern agile dev environments.

  • Extensive experience with modern web stack technologies, including detailed knowledge of  HTML, CSS and CSS preprocessors, JavaScript and MV* frameworks.

  • Understanding of API design and usage.

  • Dedication to the practice of unit testing.

  • Experience with large-scale production systems (i.e. scalability, high-availability, resiliency) with the ability to optimize implementation across all layers of architecture.

  • Experience with light-weight and/or Agile, test-driven development methodologies.

  • Knowledge of Web accessibility principles and techniques.

  • Knowledge of cloud-based services and architecture.

  • An attitude of quality, diligence and thoroughness is essential.
     

Technologies currently in use

  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript, RESTful APIs, Webhooks, ETL, Data Warehouse, DNS, Mail Servers, Shopify, ZenDesk, Canvas (Instructure), Amazon AWS (S3), SendGrid, Twilio, Simon Data.

 
Would be great if you also have:

  • Extensive experience with Node.js, SQL.

  • Full Stack engineer with the ability to work on front and back end.

  • Basic DevOps understanding.

  • Experience with XP, Agile, Scrum and Lean Startup Principles.

  • Interest in direct-to-consumer marketing and digital customer experiences.

  • You are organized, goal-oriented, motivated self-starter with excellent communication skills who can work well in a team environment.

  • You are a quick learner with a bias toward action.
