Small Door Full Stack Software Engineer

Small Door is looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join in our New York office.

At Small Door we are passionate about reimagining the veterinary experience from end to end. We have built the first membership-based veterinary practice -- using technology and a focus on hospitality to deliver a more transparent and convenient experience -- that puts pets and their pet parents first. Backed by some of the best consumer investors and fellow entrepreneurs (Lerer Hippeau, Primary, Brand Foundry, the founders of Warby Parker, Sweetgreen, Flatiron Health, One Medical, CityMD and Pop Sugar), we opened our first practice in November 2019 in the heart of the West Village with plans to expand our footprint further in 2020 and beyond.

As a full stack software engineer you will be working across our entire stack to build and maintain a system that allows us to fulfill our mission to:

  • restore dignity to the veterinary profession by providing a better work environment, full benefits, and enhanced earning potential
  • honor the sacred relationship between pet and pet parent by empowering the client with clear explanations using technology as an aid and delivering an elevated overall experience
  • reset client expectations and restore trust by delivering a transparent experience that stands for excellence and provides a dependable quality of care.

Our stack:

  • Ruby on Rails for our backend
  • React for a seamless member log-in experience
  • React Native to power our iOS and Android member app
  • PHP for our marketing site in Word Press
  • A heavy API framework to integrate with our microservices such as Stripe, Sendgrid, Twilio, Intercom, etc.

Who you are:

  • 2 to 4 years of professional software engineering experience; 1 - 2 years of professional experience is required (applicants who do not meet these requirements will NOT be considered);
  • Motivated by the opportunity to develop Small Door's tech department;
  • Excited to work across the spectrum, from code creation, code reviewing to QAing and deploying;
  • Open to work alongside a remote technical team (based in France mostly) that would work on larger iterations every 2 to 3 months;
  • Have a passion for solving problems and willingness to work with non-technical team members to resolve technology issues.

What you’re looking for:

  • A place to grow and learn;
  • The opportunity to do a great job at a wide variety of tasks;
  • A group of good people doing great things where autonomy is truly valued;
  • A company that is making an impact on the lives of its consumers and is just getting started!

This position reports into the company's co-founder and President, Florent Peyre.

What you'll get:

  • Competitive salary;
  • Meaningful equity ownership;
  • Health, dental + vision insurance;
  • Flexible PTO, because we respect the need for work/life harmony;
  • CitiBike membership, HealthAdvocate membership, One Medical membership, WageWorks commuter benefits, subsidized gym membership;
  • Our annual management offsite;
  • Discounted veterinary care for your loved ones;
  • An opportunity to make a real impact on the people around you;
  • A collaborative family of people who live our core values and have your back;
  • A clear career path with opportunities for development, both personally and professionally
