Job Description

The Clinical Bioinformatics Software Engineering group within the Department of Pathology specializes in building software to analyze vast amounts of molecular data and using it to characterize the spectrum of genetic mutations in patient tumors. Analysis of this genomic data is directly impacting patient care - guiding treatment decisions and the enrollment of patients onto clinical trials of novel targeted therapies.

The data footprint at our group has rapidly grown to over 2PB. It’s all managed by over a dozen production servers that facilitate automatic processing of terabytes of data per day, ground breaking visualization portals, and increasingly challenging genomic databases.

We are looking for a talented and driven software engineer to help us build software that’s redefining how the world treats cancer. As a Full Stack Software Engineer in Clinical Bioinformatics, you will work in a highly collaborative environment, engineering cutting edge clinical and research software systems. Some projects include: developing high throughput data processing for sequencing pipelines, petabyte scale data management solutions, crafting, building and growing REST APIs, and building front-end web applications to quickly and clearly disseminate complex genomic data for our pathologists.

If you’re ready to apply your software engineering and computer science skills to a new challenge, one that can directly impact both our patients and the entire scientific community we’d love to meet you!

You Are:

  • A passionate and pragmatic full stack software developer that thrives on building complete, end-to-end solutions for your users
  • Capable of building strong user relationships and delivering user-centric products
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment fraught with complex problems
  • Adept at learning quickly, applying insights from past efforts to new situations.
  • An effective communicator, capable of describing highly technical topics in a simple, yet comprehensive manner

You Need:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or another quantitative field
  • Strong experience writing and designing web APIs
  • Front-end development experience using modern web development technologies (React/Redux, Vue, Angular etc)
  • Empathy for your users and a passion for helping others

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in our stack – Python (Flask), Javascript (React/Redux), MongoDB, MySQL
  • Contributions to Open Source projects
  • Biology, next generation sequencing and cancer genetics experience is not required – an interest in learning more about the domain is enough!
