What are the best paths for the diagnosis and treatment of children’s medical conditions?

Visible Health has a new approach to crowd-sourced medicine. We are using a special dataset - medical information sourced from active and engaged parents - to build a product that provides expert and ML-informed guidance at pivotal moments in children’s health journeys.

We are a rare startup. We have early-stage funding from New Lab and Antler to build our vision on the basis of just a strong founding team and an important idea. If you join us, you will help make our product a reality.

What's the Role?

We’re looking for a full time or part-time engineer to build our product as the third member of our team. This is an unusual opportunity to be there at the launch of a meaningful and substantial project. 

You do not need to be a CTO or manager. You can shape your long term role. Nevertheless, your decisions will dictate our initial engineering ethos, and you will have the time and flexibility to follow solid engineering principles as we grow.

We are programming language agnostic, but we think candidates will likely use React or Python with a solid understanding of the language’s core principles and standard libraries. Senior candidates ideally also have experience designing application frameworks for use across multiple projects. We strongly prefer candidates who employ test-driven development and continuous integration and delivery where appropriate.

What’s the Product?

We are crowdsourcing data from large numbers of parents about their children’s medical conditions. This data includes behavioral and neurological symptoms, diagnoses, specific doctors, treatments, and organizations (hospitals, schools, etc). We apply this data to offer guidance tailored to each parent and each child for - initially - a narrow set of common cases and conditions conditions. Over time, we will expand our coverage.

Our full approach applies basic, ML-informed techniques and expert guidance to identify valuable content. These ideas have enthusiastic support by outstanding clinicians.

Pediatric treatment of infants and toddlers is especially challenging. In as many as 45% of cases, parents do not get the information they “should” in their first attempt to understand important symptoms of childhood development. We can do better.
