The Role:

Developers at Newsela work on big problems in literacy education, from building the infrastructure necessary to handle tens of millions of users to solving novel problems in text complexity and personalization. As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you will work on systems critical to that effort to ensure that our technology team can move swiftly and that our end-users are delivered a reliable and fast experience. You will be responsible for the uptime and performance of our applications, as well as supporting the technology team with tooling to improve efficiency, stability, and ease-of-use for our services. Most of all, you will develop code that is both scalable and understandable not only to the SRE team, but to the technology team at large.

Why We’ll Love You:

You know how applications work on the web and have experience in building out the infrastructure and tooling to support them. You have strong programming experience in Python and have demonstrated experience with the command line and shell scripting, especially to automate your own work and the work of people around you. You also have a depth of experience with “the cloud” (AWS or its competitors), and writing reusable code around it. You've participated in on-call rotations handling incident response. You get intrinsic satisfaction out of supporting and elevating the teams around you with both code and process.
