Learning Engineer

We’re looking for a subject matter expert in learning for a digital environment. The successful candidate will have a passion for and expertise in creating adaptive learning solutions for a wide variety of learners. With some experience in course creation and application of pedagogical methods, the Learning Engineer will assist product, technology, and design teams in prototyping, validating, and developing a platform to enable adaptive learning, while working with internal subject matter experts to align content creation to maximize the efficacy of this evolving adaptive learning technology.

 

Projects will range from developing small scale prototypes (lean innovation) to working with the platform engineering team to implement long term adaptive learning strategies and algorithms as well as personalized learner experiences.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with product and UX design teams to define the vision of platform learning experiences (including iterative prototyping and validation)

  • Work with technology team to implement validated experience and learning solutions in the platform

  • Work with internal subject matter experts to understand current content specifications and define standards and updates needed to utilize the future platform learning technologies being developed

  • Stay abreast of emerging technology developments, potential pedagogical applications, and associated educational research; educate the organization on relevant technology options and instructional principles to enhance learning

 

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in learning engineering, learning experience design, computational psychometrics, computer science, or instructional design, or a combination of experience and coursework

  • Conceptual understanding of psychometrics sufficient to work with product development team and in-house psychometricians with regard to use of assessment in delivering personalized learning

  • Applied knowledge of learning and cognitive sciences

  • Strong communication skills: the ability to succinctly articulate salient points around a complex subject matter. Success in the role depends on your ability to convey your knowledge and understanding to the team

  • Experience promoting the effective use of educational technology; ability to work with internal stakeholders across disciplines

  • Awareness around teaching and learning needs in multiple learning verticals (eg, high-stakes test prep, institutional/higher education, academic learning, corporate training)

  • Knowledge of IMS Global standards (LTI, QTI)

  • Familiarity with technologies used to support, author, and analyze online course delivery, for example: Open Learning Initiative (OLI), Cognitive Tutor Authoring Tool (CTAT), Canvas, DataShop, LearnSphere, among others

 

Would be great if you also have:

  • Previous experience in data-driven AI-based computational models as applied to large-scale/high-dimensional learning, assessment, or psychological data

  • Previous experience utilizing API and LTI hooks for data collection and processing

  • Experience interpreting data to create tools, structures, systems, and processes capable of providing actionable and meaningful feedback to team members based on measurement and analysis of individual differences as they pertain to specific areas of inquiry

  • Any additional experience or education in learning engineering, learning experience design, computational psychometrics, instructional design, or a combination of experience and coursework
