Network Engineer
Jackpocket is the first mobile lottery app in the U.S. that offers players a secure way to order official state lottery tickets, such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and more, via their smartphones. Jackpocket is looking for an experienced, self-driven Network Engineer that will help the company scale its operations systems as it expands into new markets. As a member of the operations tech team, you’ll be tasked with designing and maintaining a performant, reliable on-premise and cloud network and system infrastructure. With complex networks and high-availability requirements this is the perfect opportunity for a versatile engineer with a breadth of skills who craves variety.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the architectural evolution of the Jackpocket system; design network topologies, perform network equipment selection and procurement. Design for degraded operations, power and network redundancy, geographic redundancy.
- Provide support to local lottery operations to ensure live systems are performing properly. Proactively monitor the health and status of the network infrastructure, (GCP) cloud and on-prem environments.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures, and networks related documentation. Assist with system deployments.
- Provide support on a scheduled basis as part of an on-call rotation for escalated issues.
- Ensure that system uptime and incident responses meet service level agreements. Create and maintain Operational Reports on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Install new/rebuild existing networks and network related devices. Manage printer, scanner, and workstation configuration, firmware, and software updates.
- Works closely with technical support, engineers, lottery operations team, and other groups as needed to narrow investigative efforts, resolve incidents, and build repeatable processes for future incident resolution. Effectively notifies business units of incidents impacting services.
- Works independently to identify improvements to processes, workflows, standards, and tools that can be used to improve efficiency of lottery courier operations.
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge and experience in configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewall and wireless controllers, VPN, QoS, firewall policies and VLANs
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing network and infrastructure services, including VPN, in a cloud-based enterprise environment
- Experience with systems and IT operations
- Strong understanding of enterprise and carrier telecommunications, including:
- Trouble Ticketing and Ticketing Systems
- Strong Routing and Switching (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, Static Routing, SpanningTree Protocol/Rapid SpanningTree)
- IPsec (IKEv2)
- Strong TCP/IP and OSI model familiarity.
- Strong understanding of traditional LAN and WAN technologies and related monitoring and troubleshooting:
- Modems (PPTP, DOCSIS, Fibre Op, Cellular)
- Ethernet
- Enterprise Ethernet (1, 10GbE)
- Hands on experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare, KVM, Linux Containers, Docker
- Able to diagnose live systems and trace errors. Traffic monitoring and analytics such as packet capture analysis
- Experience developing and deploying services using Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible)
- 2+ years of work as a Network Engineer, NetOps, SysOps or a comparable position
