Lead, build, architect our response to the petabytes of observability data we produce. Collaborate across SRE, Application Engineers, Core Infrastructure, Platform teams to understand their current development workflow in order to unify Vimeo’s observability strategy. Define clear outcomes for improving our customer experience through data.

What you'll do:

  • You'll dive into our systems by working with our Site Reliability Engineers, where a large portion of the telemetry work will come from.
  • You’ll have a clear grasp of our telemetry systems and requirements. You’ll have implemented some portion of a prototype for a new system. You’ll have embedded with our developers to come up with a system for SDKs.
  • You'll work closely with the core internal teams to build out our first SDK’s, and have the first version of our new telemetry systems in place.
  • You’ll workwith different teams to define our observability strategy - telemetry, logging, SDKs, tracing. You will be leading our quest to unify our telemetry systems to a centrally delivered system.
  • Day-to-day, you’ll be coming up with new and creative ways to manage large scale data and observability requirements we have

Skills and knowledge you should possess:

  • Experience running large scale observability and telemetry systems, including managing a high-level senior engineering team
  • Deep knowledge about the state of the current observability market.
  • 3-15 years of programming, with specific knowledge of Golang or Python a plus
  • Our current stack is: Graphite, Grafana, ElasticSearch, Prometheus, Datadog, New Relic, Stack Driver
