Away is looking for a Packaging Engineer to join our Product Development team to support packaging development. You will be responsible for ensuring that all packaging is of a quality, design and utility to create an exceptional experience for our customers when they receive their Away product. This role will be responsible for ensuring that all packaging meets design specifications, passes the designed testing plans, and meets cost objectives. 

This position is based out of our headquarters in Soho and reports to the Packaging Manager on the Product Development and Sourcing team.

What you'll do:

• Collaborate and build relationships with external partners (e.g. suppliers, fulfillment centers, 3rd party lab, consultants) 

• Influence design concepts and deliver fulfillment solutions alongside our partners in Product Development, Product Design, and Supply Chain 

• Ensure all packaging meets the design, function, and quality criterias while stewarding the cost & timing of the program

• Develop, maintain, and optimize packaging specifications and assembly instructions across multiple product categories

• Design, plan, and conduct performance testing

• Support continuous improvement program, including: QC & QA, sustainability, cost to manufacture and optimized size to ship

Who you are:

• Bachelor's Degree of Packaging Engineering/Science with 2 years of experience in packaging development.

• Experience in consumer products or related industry with development experience in packaging. Experience developing packaging for e-commerce / direct-to-consumer would be a plus.

• Broad knowledge of packaging materials (including but not limited to paper, corrugated, dustbags, plastics), structures for consumer products, methods for construction 

• Good communication skills, to be able to work with internal partners and the suppliers effectively

• Excellent organizational skills to manage the documentation, materials, samples and information
