Job Description

You will help lead the technical architecture and long term vision for the product platform that Butterfly’s Ultrasound devices and SaaS products are built upon. You will own and oversee the technical integrity of the common components and services that product developers use to design, develop, and run Butterfly user experiences. You are a senior technical contributor who can lead software engineers and teams to clarify requirements, reason through ambiguous and complex problems or tradeoffs to reach sound technical solutions. Your knowledge and experience designing and implementing SaaS products allows you to be able to develop, own, and consult on platform components, services, and data models shared across product development domains. As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be: 

• Contribute to a multi-year architecture and technology vision for SaaS product platform components, services, and/or data model definitions foundational to user experiences.
• Collaborate and consult closely with product development teams to design, develop, and own the common components, services, data models, and policies shared across business domains. These product platform components must meet customer requirements for usability, quality, compliance, privacy, security, latency, and reliability.
• Establish technical credibility with product development engineers. Facilitate resolution of architectural/design, process, or people issues at the product platform level across product development teams within software engineering.
• Coach or mentor software engineers in development of their technical and leadership skills. Embody Butterfly corporate and software engineering values and culture.
• Perform a broad variety of tasks in support of the role and responsibilities.

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

• 8+ years of hands-on development experience of/with a broad set of SaaS application technologies and frameworks. Solid understanding of programming fundamentals, modern architecture patterns in the context of system design, API design, and/or data modeling. 
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent technical experience
• Proven ability to architect and design distributed software systems that are customer centric, well-tested, reliable, scalable, and compliant with privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
• High capacity and interest in continuous learning. Experience with Python, Node.js, GraphQL, SQL or NoSQL databases. Ability to transition between programming languages and tool sets, platforms, and domains. 
• Track record of partnering with product development and cross functional teams to translate customer needs and business requirements into well designed solutions and to make technical topics accessible to non-technical stakeholders.

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

• Building systems that leverage pub/sub, eventing, monitoring, logging, data pipeline or analytics solutions.
• Experience working in healthcare or other highly regulated environments.
• Raises the level of the team by attracting, developing, and motivating top talent. 
• Consistent delivery through strong communication, influence, and collaboration. 
• Exhibits strong backbone and insists on high standards while reconciling commitment to company level alignment and priorities.
