Professional Services Engineer

The Role

We’re looking to expand our growing Professional Services team with a Professional Services Engineer who can guide our customers through the process of implementing and scaling their on-premise deployments of our DNS software. If you have a systems administrator background and enjoy working with customers, particularly in the context of leading on-site trainings and troubleshooting sessions, then this is the role for you!

Responsibilities will include:

  • Deploying self-hosted instances of our network stack across multiple hosts using common Unix tooling, Docker, and Docker Compose
  • Building out an internal wiki / FAQ for debugging and troubleshooting purposes
  • Working directly with customers to troubleshoot and debug their configurations, both on site and remotely
  • Serving as a consultative resource for customers as they integrate NS1’s software with their infrastructure
  • Leveraging insights gathered from working with customers to provide feedback to the product development process
  • Helping to improve the onboarding process to accelerate migrations and enhance the customer experience
  • Partnering with the Product and Engineering teams on improving the product
  • This role requires approximately 25% travel

Your Skills:

  • Excellent Linux/Unix and networking knowledge
  • Moderate programming skills and experience with shell scripting
  • Familiarity and high level of comfort with managing distributed systems
  • Prior exposure to containerized architecture and common virtualization platforms (eg. VMWare, HyperVisor)
  • Experience with Docker and comfort with CLI software
  • Prior experience working with Ansible and other config management tooling
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Nice to have:

Familiarity with

  • Layer 4-7 load balancing
  • Tools in the modern DevOps toolkit

    • Anycasted edge network that spans nearly 30 facilities globally

    • Deployment automation, CI/CD, unit/integration testing
    • Monitoring, metrics collection and alerting
    • Traffic load balancing, filtering, and DDoS mitigation tools
    • Distributed messaging, persistent DB and caching systems
  • Other technologies and integrations include:
    • Linux, Ansible, Docker & other container platforms
    • BGP, BPF, SDN, packet analysis
    • MongoDB, Redis, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL
    • Go, Python, Bash, C, C++14, React, Redux, node
    • OpenTSDB, ELK, Grafana
    • Integrations with third party SaaS, APIs, and libraries, various Open Source projects including REST API clients and integrations
