Security Engineer
Check is a payroll-as-a-service API that lets you embed payroll directly in your vertical SaaS, HR, or time-tracking platform. Our API abstracts away the complexities of running payroll: tax calculation, remittance, and filing, plus the movement of money between companies and employees. This enables companies to easily build fully integrated payroll products to offer to their customers.
Trust is Check's number one asset. As a payroll company, we're entrusted with a remarkable amount of sensitive information, all in service of making paying people simple. We take that responsibility very seriously.
For this role, we are seeking a security engineer with an entrepreneurial mindset, deep technical experience, and high integrity. With the support of leadership, you will have an outsized impact on the security of our product and a growing organization.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and own improvements to system security across the stack
- Build tooling for the organization to detect and respond to threats
- Contribute to a broader company security culture through research and knowledge sharing
- Partner with legal and other functions to help develop and execute on security policies
- Own our responsible disclosure program and data governance
Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have:
- Empathy for users and stakeholders
- Experience in a security-focused engineering role in a high-stakes production environment
- Holistic, nuanced understanding of security, from the application layer to the cloud
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Ability to communicate complex topics clearly to multiple audiences
- A strong sense of ownership and ability to drive through ambiguity
