Senior Back-End Engineer
Who We Are
Summer’s vision is to help the 44 million Americans burdened by student debt save time and money through customized recommendations. Summer combines policy expertise and innovative technology to serve student loan borrowers across the country. Our founding team draws on years of experience in public policy, law, consumer finance, and engineering to tackle one of the greatest challenges of our generation.
We’ve registered as a public benefit corporation (PBC) as part of our commitment to helping all borrowers improve their financial health through smart repayment strategies. We recently raised our Series A and are backed by a team of world-class investors, including General Catalyst, NextView, Greycroft, Foundation Capital, Story Ventures, and QED Investors—and our first partner is Yale University.
Your Role
We could spend paragraphs talking about coding requirements, algorithms, and data structures, but you know that already. There are plenty of companies in NYC where you can program all day every day—this is more than just Jira tickets and GitHub code reviews. Come take ownership as you deliver something that people truly need. As a Senior Back-End Engineer, you'll be an integral part of every aspect of the company—not just the code base but also in the product and the company culture.
Recommended Experience
We are seeking a teammate with 5+ years of back-end application, data, and platform engineering experience. We will be evaluating your track record of building and maintaining code in a production environment, as well as your experience architecting data models and scaling products at a software company. If you have relevant experience and are excited about fintech innovation at a company that’s breaking down barriers to higher education, we’d love to chat!
Technologies We Use: Node, Postgres, React, Redux
Our Values
Our greatest asset is the set of values our team strives to embody every day in our office (located next to Grand Central): empathy, diversity, growth, determination, humility, and fun. Read more about what these mean to us at https://www.meetsummer.org/careers.
We look forward to hearing from you. Join us to help fix the system!
