Founded in 2019, Flex is an early stage NYC-based FinTech startup that is building the infrastructure to enable flexible bill payments for all Americans, starting with a very common and very large expense: rent. Flex enables its users to pay their rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances, rather than paying the full amount on the first of each month. We are looking for talented Software Engineers to help us build, scale, and improve the backend services that power our offerings. As a member of a small, but growing, team, you’ll have a large impact on the future of our technology.

What you'll do

• Build and deliver backend services that help to alleviate the financial stress of living paycheck-to-paycheck
• Ensure our software is scalable, reliable, extensible, maintainable, debuggable, secure, well-tested and performs well under load
• Work with product to to define roadmaps, priorities, and specifications to meet our business and engineering needs
• Participate in the adoption of best practices and process improvements
• Collaborate with, mentor, and learn from other engineers and members of the Flex team

Who you are

• 5+ years of professional experience writing backend software in a strongly typed language (C, C++, Java, Go, etc)
• Experience developing concurrent, correct applications
• Production experience with microservices and asynchronous, queue-based workflows
• Production experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
• Production experience with AWS is a plus
• Possess a thorough understanding of trade-offs in engineering for scalability, fault tolerance, maintainability, and performance
• Write clean, well-tested code 
• Strive to find simple solutions to complex problems
• Mission-driven, ideally aligned with our mission to improve access to effective financial products for people who need it most
• Curious and enjoy not only learning, but also mentoring others
