ABOUT VTS
VTS is the fastest-growing Proptech company in the history of commercial real estate (CRE). We have transformed a $15 trillion dollar industry with our award-winning platform which is used to manage over 60% of all office buildings. We’re continuing to expand our product offerings and are building the industry’s first and only online marketing software and end-to-end leasing marketplace, VTS Market. VTS Market will enable landlords to market their available spaces more effectively, and help tenant rep brokers and their tenants easily find and lease space online – a process that has traditionally been offline and difficult.
It’s an exciting time to join the VTS team – we recently reached unicorn status after raising $90 million in series D funding led by our clients (believed to be the largest venture financing in the history of commercial real estate software), we recently made the Forbes Cloud 100 list of the hottest private cloud companies, and were named one of Crain's best places to work!
Our headquarters are in NYC, but we have hubs in other major US cities, Toronto, CA, and London, UK.

How does this Position help VTS Succeed?
We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to own the engineering for the VTS Marketplace product experience. This new product launched in June 2020 and is already generating revenue (and media attention) at an incredible pace. This is a greenfield customer-facing business and technology stack. You’ll be leading a motivated, results-oriented team through the next phase of our business. You’ll partner with our Sr. Director of Engineering to enable greater organizational scale and effectiveness, and contribute to key strategic product and business decisions.

What Makes This Job Awesome?

  • Own delivery of a complex, challenging, and high-visibility product roadmap.
  • While the scope of the role will probably expand to the point where regular IC work isn’t possible, we hope that at first you will participate in software development to better understand the codebase and ways of working.
  • Grow from being a strong independent manager of one squad to a larger team across two or three squads.
  • Manage EMs and senior engineers who are exploring management; they would manage a subset of your team.
  • Engage and inspire the team by clearly communicating our key objectives, and effectively engaging their collective expertise
  • Working closely with your product manager counterpart and business stakeholders to develop roadmaps
  • Develop and track metrics for product success and operational excellence
  • Foster a healthy and collaborative culture that reflects our company and engineering values, and attracts and retains a diverse team.
  • Recruit, coach and mentor team members, creating a structured environment and feedback loop that supports career development and high engagement

What Makes You a Great Fit?

  • 5+ years management experience with one or more engineering teams
  • You have a strong technical background with experience building, shipping and maintaining web applications and services
  • You can contribute to technical strategy and decisions and understand technical tradeoffs and risks, and help prioritize work against product and business needs
  • You have a strong track record leading teams, building and fostering collaborative cultures that deliver complex, high quality products
  • You provide clear, consistent leadership, management and mentoring for direct reports and the broader technology organization
  • You have experience managing managers, including supporting first-time managers
  • You have excellent communication, coaching, mentoring, and teaching skills.
  • You have experience recruiting and promoting emerging talent
  • You have excellent communication skills, and can create alignment with product, sales, marketing, and customer support in a startup environment where changes are frequent.

About Our Team:

An Insider's view of VTS

What are some social events your company does?

I spend a large part of my week at work, so being around great people is very important. The vibe at VTS is very friendly, and there are plenty of opportunities to share knowledge and to socialize, including brown bags, catered lunches, happy hours, team outings, and other events.

Rafael

Staff Software Engineer

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

I collaborate with other teams on the company when there’s a piece of code that I’m working on that relates to another topic or domain expertise, I’ll ask for help. Everyone’s really into the idea of collaborating because we know that it’ll create a better product!

Anisha

Software Engineer

How does the company support your career growth?

VTS has a culture of constant learning--the most seasoned members of our team are still humble and curious. I’m challenged daily to keep reading, trying new things, and sharing my experience. VTS brings in experts to keep us learning, and I’m given coaching and access to resources that help me grow. I feel like everyone here wants me to succeed.

Chrissy

Director, Product

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

A creative environment is critical for great marketing! The main way I try to do this is encourage everyone's ideas - and recognize that while I may have more experience, this is the first time for all of us at this company, so my job is to guide the team towards great ideas, not be the source of all of them.

Amy

Chief Marketing Officer

How do your team's ideas influence the company's direction?

This year we completely redesigned our product strategy process. Several cross-functional forums provide an avenue where anyone in the company can suggest projects and influence prioritization. Feedback on the new process has been incredibly positive. It’s helping to keep the whole company aligned on our most promising and impactful initiatives.

Niall

Chief Technology Officer & Co-Founder
