Teachable’s mission is to “empower Creators to monetize their expertise.” Our online platform enables individuals and small businesses (our “Creators”) to build, host and sell online courses and coaching. (Examples of our Creators and their offerings can be found here, here and here.) We generate revenue in two ways: (1) from monthly or annual subscription fees (SaaS) paid to us by our Creators for access to the platform; and (2) from transaction fees calculated as a percent of the value of courses and services sold by Creators through our platform. We currently support over 40,000 Creators who have collectively sold over $1 billion in courses and coaching on Teachable.

We're looking to bring on a full stack engineer on our Student Experience pod, which is responsible for delivering solutions that give our creators the flexibility, reliability, control, and insights for fulfilling engaging student experiences in a scalable way.

Our development teams are structured into cross-functional Product Engineering pods each consisting of 4-6 engineers (including an engineering lead or manager), a Product Manager, a Product Designer Read up on engineering here in How We Code at Teachable.

  • With experience building and maintaining scalable and reliable backend service using Ruby on Rails or similar object-oriented programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, etc.
  • Who has demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions
  • With experience building and maintaining scalable applications, databases, and distributed systems
  • Who advocates for performance measurement and optimization
  • Who enjoys solving complex technical problems in both new and legacy codebases

  • Who has played a key role in designing and implementing technical projects with multiple team members with varying experiences
  • Who has contributed to architecture discussions to drive technical decisions on your team
  • Who is humble, collaborative, service-oriented and a fast learner

An Insider's view of Teachable

What are some social events your company does?

At the end of every summer we host a company retreat in upstate New York. It's a multi-day event with color war style games and is a great way to build connections across the company and get to know people outside of the office.
