Senior Mechanical Engineering

Brooklyn, NY / Chicago, IL / REMOTE

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Since 2013, our founding mission at StrongArm Technologies has been and remains to keep the world’s
Industrial Athletes™ proud, protected and productive. We achieve this through our pioneering FUSE safety
wearables and the actionable ergonomic data they provide to individuals and management across numerous job types, industries and operating environments.

The Industrial Athlete™ is the beating heart of everything we represent and strive for here at StrongArm - the essential, frontline workers of the world who put their bodies on the line to perform a critical job function that positively impacts lives beyond their own. But that responsibility doesn’t come without its
consequences. Far too often, preventable workplace injuries lead to lost shifts, missed paychecks and
threatened livelihoods. That, to us, is unacceptable.

In order to most effectively prevent injuries in a given operational environment, we work closely with each client across many dedicated and leading-edge teams, including client services, data and engineering, IT
security and others. Each safety program is tailored to the needs of the workers on the ground and the
managers who oversee them, including what types of safety wearables and attachment options will suit
them best, and the look and cadence of the safety reports that we’ll provide. The result is an actionable
and scalable safety solution that seamlessly becomes part of a facility’s daily routine and is proven to
prevent workplace injuries by as much as 64% across hundreds or thousands of Industrial Athletes.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineering you will convert the industrial design to a high-volume, reliable, durable, manufacturable, mechanical engineering design, and support the transition of that design to high-volume manufacturing for StrongArm’s sensor and dock hardware.
In this role, you will work on improvements to current hardware, as well as new designs for new to market products utilizing methods such as injection molding, ultrasonic welding, mechanical fastening techniques, water/dust tightness, and bring material knowledge to the role. You will be experienced designing products in wet or dirty environments, products worn by humans, or consumer electro-mechanical products.

You will convert conceptual prototypes into robust product designs, perform testing and verification on prototypes, perform system design analysis including reliability, design for manufacturing, design for assembly, etc. You will document chosen designs, components, assembly drawings, and manufacturing drawings, and maintenance instructions; including appropriate BOM documentation into Arena. Work with quality engineering to test the design to ensure that in volume manufacturing it will meet all the intended product specifications over time.

Work with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and vendors to ensure that the mechanical design is transitioned to volume manufacturing from soft-tool to hard-tool qualifications and sign offs, ensuring reliability, stability, and longevity of the product. Support deviations requests during volume manufacturing as needed.
You will work on cross functional project teams including electrical engineering, firmware engineering, manufacturing, product management, and sourcing to create high volume, highly reliable products for demanding environments. Utilizing a set of requirements to design elegant solutions both quickly and carefully, preemptively identifying manufacturability and future maintenance requirements.
You will assist with the quality team to root cause field issues, and provide corrective action to modify designs as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Minimum 5+ years of experience with mechanical engineering design
    • 5+ years of Solidworks experience.
    • MS/BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar field)
    • In depth knowledge of solid modeling, drawings, tolerances, and change control process.

    • Working knowledge of failure avoidance methods such as DFMEA/PFMEA and fault tree analysis
    • Ability to interface well with remote teams.
    • Experience utilizing simulation software to validate designs.
    • Experience with Electromechanical products.
    • Experience with consumer products is a plus.
    • Highly organized; attentive to details.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage, execute and deliver products in a fast-paced environment.
