TITLE: Sr. Mechanical Engineer

HOURS: Full-time

LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY

REPORTS TO: Mechanical Engineering

COMPENSATION: Salary is competitive with other early-stage companies, including benefits, bonus plan, and equity stock options.

BioLite is seeking a well-rounded Mechanical Engineer to join the team in designing products from conception to launch. In this role, you’ll work with the Product Development team, the Manufacturing team, and Supply-Chain partners to bring new, innovative products to market.

As a Mechanical Engineer at BioLite you’ll solve challenging and interesting problems, work with an exceptional team, take ideas from concept through to large-scale production, and make a real positive impact on things that matter.

 

You Will:

  • Design and Develop New Products from Concept to Manufacturing.
  • Identify, Track and Manage Product Design Risks, recommending appropriate mitigation and cross-functional coordination. 
  • Demonstrate Proof of Concepts.
  • Deliver production ready (Design for Manufacturing) detailed CAD while maintaining Industrial Design Intent.
  • Ensure Product Designs meet Schedule, Performance, Safety, Quality, and Cost goals.    
  • Conduct Engineering Design Reviews, Part Break-Up and Design for both Assembly and Tooling, Failure Modes and Effect Analysis, and Testing to ensure high product quality and reliability.
  • Support Manufacturing, Quality, Testing, Supply-Chain and other technical roles as needed; establishing successful transfer of designs to manufacturing for mass production.
  • Foster and manage positive working relationships with cross-functional teams including design, marketing, engineering, and operations. 
  • Conduct in-field research for both our Outdoor and Emerging Markets.
  • Travel approximately 20% of the time.

 

You Have:

  • 7+ years’ experience in a relevant field working on developing hardware.
  • A Mechanical Engineering degree (Required for this position).
  • Experience in Consumer Electronics product development and manufacturing.
  • Experience in creative concept generation and down selection recommendation.
  • An eagerness to prototype, leveraging simple shop tools and/or rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Good working knowledge of plastic materials, injection molding, sheet metal, and die-casting.
  • Working knowledge of tolerance analysis and associated alignment intent within designs.
  • Exposure to thermal management (a plus). 
  • Expertise in Solidworks (preferred), ProE, or NX 3D CAD modeling software(s).
  • Experience transferring product designs, through DFM, to Contract Manufacturers in China.
  • A proactive nature and work ethic.
  • Proven to be extremely detail oriented, organized, and accountable for your work.
  • A willingness to get outdoors to use and test products from BioLite and competitive brands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A sense of humor and the ability to self-regulate stress.
