OVERVIEW

VICE is looking for an experienced engineer to join our Brooklyn office to focus on back-end API development of our world-leading media products. The role will have the opportunity to influence a large number of projects which reach across the entire spectrum of media produced by VICE. The VICE technology department ensures that people around the world are able to access this content 24 hours a day, from any connected device.

Our API technology stack includes NodeJS, MySQL, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Redis—among others.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn, contribute to and maintain an existing code base.

  • Write clean, efficient, well-commented code.

  • Expertise designing and architecting highly scalable and highly available backend applications.

  • Work with app sec and devops teams to build secure and maintainable solutions.

  • Collaborate and work efficiently amongst a team of tech leads, developers and designers.

  • Work autonomously and be comfortable executing features from start to finish.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 Years Professional web development experience building usable web based software and scalable websites.

  • Passion and deep familiarity with Node.

  • Demonstrate ability to build scalable microservices.

  • Relentless dedication to building unit testing coverage.

  • Deep familiarity with AWS services - SQS, RDS, Elasticache, Lambda

  • Experience with agile software development and best practices.

  • An aptitude for learning new domains quickly and skill sharing.

  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines

  • Proficiency working on a fast-paced team, with product owners, designers and other developers.

  • Comfortable working with DevOps best practices and principles
