About the Team

We are Core Services. We write the APIs and services that power our new digital products. We consider these products essential to the future success of WW. We are building an event-driven, reactive microservice architecture.

We are Agile. We believe in total ownership of the products we build. We empower our engineers to find the right solutions. We value people and encourage innovation.

Right now we build our applications using Scala, Play and Akka. We mostly use Cassandra as our data store. We deploy and run our applications in Docker containers. We have started using AWS (mainly Kinesis and Lambda) and will probably be using more in the future.

About You

You are a passionate, accomplished software developer. You enjoy building robust, scalable web applications. You are good at collaborating closely with others both within and outside your team. You are constantly learning new things and sharing your experiences with others. You get things done.

You excel at Scala. You have a deep understanding of OO and Functional design patterns. You understand good system design and architecture, particularly microservice and event-driven architectures. You enjoy mentoring others and helping them develop their talents.

Above all, you are excited by the opportunity to work with and learn about new technologies.

Key Requirements

• 4+ years Scala experience and 8+ years of relevant software development experience
• Deep understanding of how the web works
• Experience designing and building highly scalable RESTful APIs
• Experience with Microservices architecture
• Experience leading teams of developers is preferred
• Experience working with Play, Akka, Cassandra or Kinesis is an advantage
