Senior Software Engineer - Product Engineering - API Social
Power the Peloton Experience
As a member of Peloton’s API Social team and broader Product Engineering API team you’ll be building out technology solutions that enable all user experiences across our Bike, Tread, Mobile, Web, and TV platforms for a global audience. We enable our members to discover and take live and on-demand classes across any number of fitness disciplines, send each other high-fives, compete on the leaderboard, take part in challenges, discover new music, and much more.
The API Social team focuses specifically on building and maintaining exciting features that help highlight one of the most unique and special parts of the Peloton experience: our community. We build features that enhance the workout experience and increase accountability that will motivate members to workout more. As part of API social, you will help strengthen our members’ sense of belonging and connectivity, while also respecting and protecting member privacy.
The Role
We are looking for collaborative backend engineers who can work in a fast-paced, iterative environment. You’ll work closely with product managers and frontend engineers to scope complexity and break down new features into smaller releases. You will help build features and release in phases so that user feedback can inform future iterative releases. You'll help guide our efforts in building microservices that are flexible enough to accommodate iterative feature development but are also highly scalable and performant for explosive social growth. You will work with the team to build features for beta that allow us to quickly experiment while still producing high quality, reliable software for our beta users and regular members.
You are someone who thinks about simplicity and works to provide solutions that reduce the complexity across services. You are team-focused and prioritize collective learning in addition to solving problems. You build collective ownership amongst the team by contributing to code reviews, designs, whiteboarding, and pair-programming.
Expectations
In your first weeks, you’ll learn about our backend architecture and start to familiarize yourself with some of the challenges that we are facing. You'll contribute to our existing efforts to build social features with service-oriented architectures and split out services from the monolithic application.
In the following months, you'll start contributing to the backend design of major features and evaluate how they can fit into a service-oriented architecture. You'll help make the tough decisions around building features quickly to validate experimental approaches without compromising stability and overall code quality. Finally, you'll help educate new team members and promote ways to improve quality across all our services.
