Senior Software Engineer: Provisioning Tooling and Automation

The Systems Provisioning and Tooling Automation team delivers on this mission by creating automation for fleet maintenance and providing observibility into fleet health - key foundations that will enable DO to scale.
Our Stack: Chef, Go, Ansible, Python, Linux
Our Tools: Concourse, Elasticsearch, AWX (Ansible Tower), GSuite, Jira, Prometheus, Slack, Kafka
Our Team: The Systems team is currently made up of about two dozen, mostly senior, engineers located across the US, Canada, and Germany with one engineer in the NY office and is supported by a Senior Engineering Manager. The Provisioning and Tooling Automation sub-team, supported by an Engineering Manager, accounts for approximately one-fourth of the Systems team.
What You’ll Be Doing:
While work will vary based on quarterly priorities and initiatives, some examples include:
- Driving the technical direction / vision for fleet health monitoring and maintenance automation
- Triaging and fixing provisioning automation issues impacting cloud operations
- Identifying, designing and implementing solutions for cloud operations that can be automated
- Improvements to our debian packaging and software delivery processes
- Improvements to our monitoring, alerting, and internal team tooling
- 5-20% of your time is spent on innovation, education, and/or open source
What We’ll Expect From You:
- Strong technical leadership experience (preferably in provisioning and DevOps at scale)
- Experience as a developer / engineer in a large scale, distributed environment
- Experience writing secure, testable and robust code
- Deep understanding of Linux and provisioning automation
- Experience proactively addressing reliability issues across all layers of the stackÂ
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Industry experience using Ansible is a huge plus
